I am a Steinberg certified trainer.
I have already collaborated with artists and used VST Connect and VST Connect performer to create several albums. I mean, I’ve composed, tested sounds, arranged tracks, recorded vocal guides, final parts, and backing vocals.
However, I’ve encountered numerous bugs.
Opening a blank project is not a problem, except for the bugs listed below.
But as soon as I create a new VST Connect within an existing project, it freezes the project, forcing you to end the task.
-
Repairing the connection can sometimes resolve the issue. but no in Cubase 15
-
Creating a VST Connect Pro or SE is not a problem in an empty project, but as soon as you import tracks from another project, it creates stability issues. And I should point out that even with tracks without plugins inserted, the same problem occurs.
-
In an existing project that already contains a VST Connect plugin, it’s impossible to change the webcam or to connect it. This freezes the project, forcing you to end the task and restart the project.
-
The REHRS button eliminates latency when playing live VSTIs, even though it’s designed for communication with the performer during the recording session or playback (a known issue since version 12).
-
The REHRS button must be disabled during recordings because latency of more than one second results (a known issue since version 12).
-
The video quality is bad.
-
For trainers like me, screen or application (Cubase) sharing should be easier and available in all versions of VST Connect.
-
For Trainers or sound engineers, VST Connect should be able to connect with another VST Connect instance in Cubase Element, Artist, or Pro, for example, to check mixes, this is a highly requested feature.
-
For Trainers, avoiding the use of Zoom and having a long-term solution with this system is also a highly requested feature.
-
Since version 5.6, it’s no longer possible to log in with our Steinberg loggin, so please remove this option.
In summary, VST Connect is a very good tool, but needs to be more stable in existing projects and should be a tool for remotely, checking mixes, giving mixing lessons, and sharing the screen like Zoom allows.
For the developpers : do not hesitate to contact me, I am available to test upcoming beta versions
All the best to the Steinberg teams
