Sorry for being a little too negative.
I understand what this app is used for and have already recorded some voice overs with it so I know it works.
The only thing I now would like to know is why i can only see the next plugins with performer:
-Ozone 9 elements
-CLA-76 mono(does not work)
-Youlean loudness meter
I do have cubase 5, 6 and 10 installed on the computer I’m using the performer right now but none of the cubases are used currently. I use cubase on my other computer and not on this computer.
So I ONLY use VST connect performer on this computer even though I have cubases installed here.
And what I want to do with connect is record musicians.
So when recording a guitar player for example I would like to be able to tell the player that he can use an amp plugin during recording. Just to help him perform.
I understand that midi can be used with performer and vsti can be used with it.
Performer can use any installed plugins in the Inserts of his channels.
The VSTi is for Instruments and thus only lists plugins which accept MIDI Input.
Thank you!
I’ve used VSTi’s for over 15 years and do know and understand what they are.
Currently I’m not trying to have my roland keyboard connected to anything and I am not trying to record midi with this thing. So I don’t need VSTi’s at the moment.
I’m not running Cubase at all at the moment, just running VST connect performer on one computer. Not trying to connect it to anything eithier, just triyng to get the FX working.
VST connect performer does not load my plugins(Besides the ones I told about before) no matter what root I specify.
Currently I have no “remote guitar player” online. I’m trying this only by myself with no Cubase running anywhere. JUST VST CONNECT PERFORMER running on one computer. I do understand that once this thing works and a guitar player is connected remotely to me, he/she needs to have FX on his/her own computer if he/she wants to use them.
I did not know you can enable multiple paths in the “plug-in manager” since the app is actually asking for “VST2 Path”. And only has a button for “Activate VST3 Plug-ins”
I’ve tried all kinds of paths here including “Program Files/Steinberg/VSTPlugins” “Program Files/Steinberg/Cubase 10/VSTPlugins” “Program Files(x86)/Steinberg/VSTplugins” “Program Files/Steinberg/Cubase 6/VSTPlugins”
I’ve also tried to use just the “download” folder.
Cubase 5 Installs it’s own plugins in this directory:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steinberg\Cubase 5\VSTPlugins
If you open that folder you will find all the plugins that cubase 5 includes.
And if you don’t know were cubase 6 and cubase 10 install all the included plugins I can help you with that too.
VST plugins are officially actually not named: stepfilter.plugin or surroundpan.plugin or compressor.plugin
Cubase really uses files that end .dll
So the step filter would actually be stepfilter.dll and compressor would be compressor.dll
Some plugins are actually installed somewhere other than under the “steinberg” path.
And actually that is complitely OK!! Because every cubase version has also settings for plugin locations. And in Cubase you can name many locations that contain plugins.
So you can actually download a free VST plugin called Vinyl.dll and uncompress the file to your “download” folder. So you can have
a Vinyl folder including the actual Vinyl.dll plugin inside your “download” folder.
Now you can add this “download” folder to your cubase plugins and use the Vinyl plugin!!!
That is how cubase works and has worked for at least 20 years that I have used it.
So you can actually have plugins anywhere on your computer and just let cubase know that you have another place inluding plugins.
That’s the 32-bit version of Cubase 5 and the default plugins at that location are 32-bit only. That might explain why they’re not showing up in VST Performer, which is a 64-bit host.
Ok, so only 64bit.
Why does it not show cubase 10 plugins here: “Program Files/Steinberg/VSTPlugins” or “Program Files/Steinberg/Cubase 10/VSTPlugins”
or any of the VST3 plugins included with cubase 10?
So I tried installing a free guitar amp but VST Connect doesn’t load it or even show it in the plugin manager. I actually even installed the amp here: C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3
Have you tried a ‘Refresh List’ (or whatever its called) in the Plugin Manager…? Check it hasn’t already been blacklisted (it is 64bit, isn’t it.?).! You can do this inside the Plugin Manager too (and un-blacklist it if I remember correctly).
The VST3 WavesShell or Youlean Loudness Meter aren’t showing up either…? Weird…
If its still no good, maybe try a relaunch of Cubase…?
After that, you’ll need some more specialist advice… I’m a little stuck, sorry…
Thanks to everyone. I got it working.
Still not seeing the VST3 plugins but I don’t care, VST2 works so it’s good enough for the clients.
I truly hope steinberg would look into this app. I know it’s been around for ages but it just isn’t steinberg quality. I’ve always had cubase and wavelab and everything from Steinberg working from day 1 with no problems so this does not hit the high marker for me.
