we want to use this programme for the live use of our band instead of NI Maschine. We also used a Behringer X32 mixer with an additional wireless in-ear system to get individual submixes for each person.
However, we have the following problem:
audio signals (main vocals, backing vocals, bass, guitar) from VST Live can be routed to one of the 32 individual channels on our mixer without any problems
“audio” signals/outputs from a VST instrument - in our case midi drumset & synthesizer - cannot be routed at all and end up unprocessed and without any option of routing on the “Main Output”
That can’t be right for a programme that calls itself “VST LIVE” (!), can it? So far / currently it is completely unusable for professional use.
Am I missing something?
If not: Please repair/add the routing of VST instruments in such a way that it is routable like other audio signals or as known from Cubase or any other professional programme (Reaper, Maschine, Logic, etc.).
There are two additional OUT channels (OUT 2 and OUT 3). The HALion Sonic SE channel of a Layer is routed to OUT 2. And the Retrologue channel of a MIDI track is routed to OUT 3. And OUT 2 and OUT 3 can be configured in the CONNECTIONS setup to your X32 mixer.
Thanks for your response/tip/help! At least this looks like a (small first) light at the end of the tunnel XD
Can those two channels (out 2/3) be routed freely for any vst plugin or just for halion and retrologue? and may there be more channels in the future?
I’m asking because two channels are not enough even for a semi professional setup like ours.
e.g. we are using battery (or groove agent) for our drummer and we’re used to route (from multiple instances if needed) at least seperate channels of kick/snare/tom/crash’s to our mixer for individual volume, eqing features to the p.a. regarding the individual live situation.
And on top we do need at least one (stereo) channel for a synthesizer vst and ideally a separate master midi track…
… there are no restrictions for the number of OUT channels.
… hm. Are you talking about multiple outputs channels of an instrument? Groove Agent has 16 output channels and one Master Out Channel. VST Live supports only one output channel of a virtual instrument (for Groove Agent it is the Master Out Channel).
Yes, every virtual instrument has one audio channel in the mixer .
A master MIDI track? Hm. What’s that (for)? If you add a MIDI Track and you load a virtual instrument to that track, all events of the track will be send to the instrument. If you need that track send to something external I would suggest to copy the track ?
is there a detailed guide somewhere? the manual (1.1.) is somewhat short on detailed description of audio routing of vst instruments.
So, just to be sure: we are talking about “unlimited” out channels generated from an “unlimited amount” of individual VST Intruments, that are individually and explicitly routable to individual channels an digitial outbound mixer (e.g. Behringer X32). We are not talking about individual “channel faders” inside the VST Live Mixer that are forced to the Main/Stereo Out?
jep that was what i’am talking about. but i’m aware of the fact that each vst plugin only supports one (stereo?) output channel, regardles wahts possible/represented/available inside the plugin. so we are using three-four / multiple instances of a plugin to get as much indivudal routbale outputs as possbile (snare, kick, toms, etc.)
my bad, there was the essential word “click” missing. was ment to be “master midi click track”
Next version will feature a list of plugin outputs, each of which can be assigned to any Group, or OUT channel. The first plugin channel is fixed, routed to the plugin channel that is created, so it stays as it is. This should provide what you asked for.
