… yes, it’s Friday again and a new VST Live pre-release, version 3.0.56, is online. This time, we have several improvements and a long-awaited new feature.

The modern VST Live menu has now been added to the Layer Input menu.
Plug-Ins: MIDI-Out Support for Instruments
Finally, this long-awaited request has made it into VST Live! It’s now possible to route MIDI Out events from an Instrument to another Layer or MIDI Track.
Thanks for adding Plugin Midi-Out routing! I’ve been replacing my Tracks sub-routing using (BlueCat Audio) Patch works, and directly using a step sequencer in a track.
One small peculiarity - In the titlebar of the track - typically this is where you change the audio routing of a given plugin on that track (i.e. if you want to rout a plugin’s audio out to a bus channel, or stereo out, or whatever).
Now, if you have a track with a VSTfx instrument plugin assigned (like ‘Stepic’ step sequencer), and you change that audio routing to <NC> (no connection) on that track, this will disable the Midi stream coming from ‘Stepic’ on that track.
This isn’t a big problem since Stepic isn’t generating any audio, so the audio routing could be set to anything. It is just peculiar that setting an audio-routing would disable the Midi routing.
Other than this, I’m really enjoying Midi-out routing!

Because I know, MIDI plugins (for insert) are long a waited by keyboard player users
Therefore that one “MIDI plugin” that came into my mind.
So all is about: that new port forwarding feature is exclusive to VST3 plugins, right? Did I get it finally correctly now?

… as @Kai_Schwirzke already mentioned : “Support of MIDI-Out for Instruments” is only working only for VST3. But, yeah! - it should work for VST2, too. We’ll check …
Hi again, I wanted to follow up regarding VST2 plugin handling in Layer slots. I am trying to use an old reliable utility MIDI plugin (Harmonyzer by Ginsonic, x64 VST2), which is correctly scanned and recognized in some slots, but it cannot be loaded or routed on specific layer return/sub-slots where MIDI-FX routing is expected. I would really love to get Harmonyzer working properly here too. Is there any way or plan to support this kind of MIDI-FX VST2 plugin in these slots? I’m used vstlive 3.0.60
Thanks anyway, Musicullum. I was really hoping for a harmonizer-style system like the ones found on Yamaha or Roland keyboards (such as “Melody Intelligence”). You play a chord with your left hand and a single-note melody with your right; the instrument analyzes the left-hand chord and instantly adds notes beneath your melody, simulating a duet, trio, horn section, or even full orchestral choirs—all in perfect key. What would you recommend? Or is it possible to implement something like this in VST Live? That would be fantastic.
