VST Plugin Manager Issue - Please Help

Hi All,

I’m hoping some of the knowledgeable people here can help me, because I feel like I’m going nuts over this.

I just downloaded Cubase 14 and installed it using the download assistant. I use EZ drummer on most of my recordings, so I need it as a plugin. However, the plugin manager isn’t recognizing it. I searched some tutorials and most indicated that I need to direct Cubase to find where the plugin files for EZ drummer are using the VST plugin manager.

However, the issue I’m having is that most of the tutorials indicate to use the settings “cogwheel” to add the pathway to the plugin. The problem is that my Cubase 14 doesn’t seem to have the gear “cogwheel” at all. Where the icon should be there’s nothing. I’ve attached a screenshot from my VST plugin manager, and one from the video tutorial I was watching to show what I mean.

Has anyone else had this issue? I’m really not sure what to do. I tried re-installing it but it hasn’t help. I was hoping it was a glitch. How do I fix this? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

A shot in the dark here…
Did you try moving the manager window up, or making it smaller? I loaded mine to check, and the default opening put the bottom of the window below my taskbar. I couldn’t see the cogwheel, and the line at the bottom made it seem like that was the end of the window. 1080 resolution here.

Hi,
if you are using an older version of EZ Drummer than it will probably not run on a VST3.
Please try to check the box VST2 at the bottom of your Plugin Manager in order to activate VST2 plugins which are no longer supported in Cubase 14.

Hi. I tried making it as small as possible based on your advice. Still nothing. it’s just not there. Any other ideas?

Hi. I checked for the box, but just like the cogwheel it doesn’t exist for me. It’s just not there. I have no idea what to do because no one else seems to be having this problem when I search it. Any other ideas?

If you open the Plugin Manager please go to the top left headline called VST Effects. You should see a row of options underneath the manager, a compartment at the very botton of it. It contains an “i”…VST2 box and the cog wheel. Yes, it is quite tiny! So have a close look at the very bottom of the manager.
If it is still not there please upload a screenshot of your Plugin Manager.

I tried that now. Still no cogwheel. Just the I and the plugin report option. Any other thoughts. See screenshots of the plugin manager.

What Mac are you running this on?

Try running Cubase 14 with factory settings by renaming the preferences folder in the library.

If you have folder from older versions of Cubase in that location please also rename them in order to ensure C14 uses its factory settings.

A Macbook Pro 2023 14". I just bought it 2 months ago. It should have the capability to run this program.

Just tried launching with the factory settings. No luck. It’s still there. Is it possible that the version I was provided with it faulty and doesn’t have it? It just seems really weird that’s it’s not there. It’s essentially an edit preferences button.

Of course, Cubase needs to run in Rosetta mode. Otherwise there is no VST2 support on Mac at all.

This is where I was going. This is presumably a silicon Mac, so in native mode the VST2 switch at the bottom of the plugin manager won’t exist.

I can’t run Rosetta mode. It literally just keeps crashing.

Besides shouldn’t it still have the ability for me to add current plugins. Even if I accept that I’ll need to upgrade to a new version of EZ drummer, I still would have no ability to add vst3s moving forward if I use Rosetta mode (even if I could) unless I’m misunderstanding something.

Any advice on how to fix this issue? I’m so confused as to why the version I downloaded doesn’t have the ability to add plugin pathways manually. Thanks

So using a Mac I can’t add plugins at all unless I use Rosetta mode?

Doesn’t this seem like a major software issue?

How do I resolve this?

Steinberg announced back in V12 that VST2 plugin support would stop (completely) on native silicon.
VST3 works fine.

That’s worth a new topic altogether.

You can only use VST3 plugins when not running Rosetta mode. So make sure that your EZDrummer is installed as a VST3 plugin.

In what way? Have you tried?
A common issue is that if you use a user made Collection in the plugin manager then you have to assign any newly installed plugin to this collection manually. Are you using a Collection of your own creation?

If I purchased for example EZ drummer 3 and installed kit to the correct folder for Cubase to pull from. Would this solve my issue as it would be recognized by the software?

I figure I could repeat this approach for other plugins. Would that work?

Hi,

How would I install EZ drummer as VST3 plugin? Thanks

EZ Drummer 3 is a VST3 plugin, so yes it will work in your situation, as will any other VST3 plugin.
When you run the installation, the plugin will be placed in the correct VST3 folder. You don’t have to tell it where to go.
Once installed, it will show up in your plugin manager and away you go.
