A further update regarding Stratus 3D/Symphony 3D. A response from iZotope referred to the products as from “the original developer” (which I assume means Exponential) and that “some newer formats may not be supported or programmable”.
I asked for clarification, so I could be wrong—but it sounds like iZotope is saying that they longer support it or makes fixes, and are just letting the products die on the vine. (An interesting position to take when they actively sell licenses for the “3D Reverb Bundle” at $500 a pop).
You are probably right. But I’ll have to archive the project soon anyway. I’ll take another look at it then.
We usually use more than one instance of a reverb plug-in for the reverb in a 9.1.6 mix. So it doesn’t bother us that it doesn’t work reliably with every plug-in. But we have a customer who delivers us live concerts in 7.1.4 CBI and then wants us to ‘blow up’ the mix to 9.1.6 for very little money. It would be handy if I could do this with a single reverb plug-in, so it’s quick and doesn’t cost me any time.
That would be bitter. But it would fit with the image I have of iZotope as a company. (At least for the last few years.) I’m already constantly annoyed by RX. I’ll get terminal herpes if Stratus/Symphony 3D are annoying too.
Ha, indeed. Why fix RX 8 when you can just release 9, 10 and now 11? Worried about a similar pattern emerging with SpectraLayers, but still curious what’s coming in 11.
I asked iZotope for clarification on that. When they replied, they said the products are still supported. (But not supporting new formats?) Not as dire as feared.
Eventide responded that they are also on the JUCE bandwagon. As with LiquidSonics, no timeline on a fix from JUCE, no timeline on when they’ll incorporate the JUCE fix into their products. When they do there will be a beta testing period.
Exponential audio released a new version every couple of months.
The months before their takeover by iZotope, they released a -free- update every month.
Longest period without update was 3 months.
Same with RX. There is a fault in their Vst3 implementation. Steinberg has documented the issue for them, exactly pointing out how to fix the problem.
Result: The send-receive problem is now almost a decade old.
I have moved on from their products long time ago. (Although I still think that the Exponential stuff beats any other reverb out there. That is including Cinematic Rooms)
Here is an email I received from Penteo regarding their routing that is not currently correct in their latest version 6.05 which I think might relate to the issues in this post.
Hi John –
We have traced the issues to a JUCE bug (underlying code structure used by Penteo and all audio plugins). The 7.x format errors are being fixed by JUCE I believe next week, they also have outstanding issues with 9.x formats outstanding from 2023 that they are finally addressing,
No timeline but it hopefully will be quick as well since it is related and JUCE have finally assigned a project leader to investigate and fix.
Once we received the 7.x and 9.x patch, we will be rolling out Penteo v6.0.7 immediately to as this is wholly depending on their patch, just a couple hours of effort on our side.
I have no idea if the various plugin vendors have to pay for the use of JUCE in their software. But they should definitely push the issue. After all, their own reputation as a company depends on it. It sucks when you have to rely on third parties and can’t fix a problem yourself. And again, as a customer, all we can do is wait. But the main thing is that they have our money.
Hi there,
I am a Pro Tools Ultimate user. I recently made a crossgrade to Nuendo 13. The positive side of Nuendo is that it manipulates three-dimensional objects from multichannel tracks, Pro Tools is limited to operating with objects from a stereo track. On the other hand, in Pro Tools I can directly insert a multichannel plugin into the mono/stereo channel and operate (and switch) the track within a diverse scenario: 2.0, 5.x.x, 7.x.x, 9.x.x, etc. and Ambisonics modes (Pro Tools Ultimate supports up to seventh-order Ambisonics). Furthermore, the plugins operate in successive chains, for example, we can start with an Amb 3rd scenario and end with another plugin in 9.1.6. I confess that I have a lot of difficulty working in Nuendo using the power of the extensive features of plugins such as Sound Particles, ab Brewers, Eventide, etc. Still, I’ve admired the way Nuendo operates the panner tools, which are much deeper than Pro Tools.
If Steinberg improves the insertion of multichannel plugins directly into a mono/stereo track, Nuendo will certainly be the most powerful tool, in my opinion.
Same problem with Sound Particles (Energy Panner, Brightness Panner, Density) and Cargo Cult (Slapper): Nuendo only see them as 7.1.6.
Hope this problem will be sorted out soon…
The architecture is different. You can set all tracks to whatever maximum you want and backward adjust it to stereo or mono or whatever channel you want to process or pass through.
You can stack stereo, mono, 7.1, 9.1.6 and only those channels it supports or the ones you choose will be processed using the Plug-In Input Configuration or the Routing Editor.
[OT reply] Fredo, in the unlikely case you haven’t done so already: Please do yourself a favour and try Liquidsonics’ TaiChi and HD Cart from the same company (not to mention our own MIR 3D). You’re in for a treat …
Last week JUCE released a hotfix in version 7.0.12 (and possibly 8.0.0?) that should address this issue.
Each developer that uses the JUCE framework (all the ones on my “broken” list above) will have to incorporate the newer framework to get this fix in place. Of course, any framework update should entail QA testing to make sure nothing else breaks. And many developers will wisely wait for the hotfixes to be incorporated into a stable JUCE release. On this front, there seems to b e a different level of urgency from different developers.
Fiedler Audio: on top of it, extremely responsive
Eventide: responsive and communicative, said incorporating fix may take some time for dev/QA, but will let me participate in the beta
LiquidSonics: pretty responsive after some initial resistance; said they tested the new framework hotfix and it works in 9.x.x Nuendo 13 but they will wait for a JUCE stable release before incorporating, testing and releasing (TBD)
iZotope (re Exponential): generally dismissive and not helpful; when I told them about the available JUCE hotfix, they said “that’s great, glad it’s working for you now” and tried to close my ticket; when I explained that Stratus/Symphony 3D would need to incorporate the fix, they tersely said they’d forward my message to the product team
Dear Audio: really lame response, “appreciate your information”, “take a look at our newsletter”, offered me a refund
Very good to see JUCE and manufacturers pick up on this fairly quickly! This issue was discovered by a Nuendo user (thanks @JonasN) and was picked up somehow. This maybe shows that Nuendo is getting some more support from developers at least it seems important enough for them.
