VST Plugins in Cubase Pro 14 can not be found

Allright, thank you guys very much! I do show instruments now. Now my problem is “sticker shock”. I’m just barely getting into this, and “The Grand” has a $149 Fee, Halion (some versions) is $349, etc.

It’s looking like it will cost $1500 just to get up and operating.

I get this message when I open CuBase -

”No Valid License Found - The Grand 3 and Halion 7”

Am I mistaken?

Yes, you are wrong about it. You accidently installed products which require licenses on their own. E.g. Cubase comes with Halion Sonic 7 SE, that’s the light version of Halion 7. Nevertheless, rest assured - you will be overwhelmed with the amount of instruments and content that comes with Cubase!

Seems like you didn’t download the recommended or optional stuff you can find under My Products in the Steinberg Download Assistant. Instead you downloaded items underneath it which require additional licenses…

Okay, two options:

  • A manually deinstall all products and content you don’t own > I wouldn’t recommend that given the latest history
  • B deinstall everything and start fresh.

I would take route B.

  1. Delete everything
  2. Open the Steinberg Download Assistant and dowload Cubase first (tab required) and then everything under the tab recommended and preferrably everything under the tab optional.

Open Cubase and be prepared for a treat

Thank you - I love being wrong, so I can “get right” - I’ll report back.

Making big progress - I downloaded the “Welcome Tutorial Project” and with a properly set up project it was great to hear things actually working. I’m going through all the “master the basics” and things are starting to make sense.

I’m still trying to delete “The Grande” - which I don’t have a license for. I deleted this in the download assistant, but it’s still showing up as an available instrument, even though I deleted and reinstalled Cubase. In other words, I don’t really understand where Cubase is getting its available instruments from, the paths, etc., or how to refresh this list.

A hint would be appreciated, but I think I’m moving forward. Everything worked in the “How to use virtual instruments” tutorial.

Hi,
If you are on Windows have a look at your installed apps in your Windows system settings window, Select it and delete it.
Another way: Open your Steinberg Library Manager and delete the Content.

I am glad it works as expected apart from that. There’s a lot to explore

Thanks to you guys’ advice and A LOT of work, I have all the “standard”s Groove Agent, Padshop, Halion7 and Retrologue. I even got Kontakt 8 Player installed. I sprang for the full licensed version of Cubase.

I’ve imported a file which is a piano mockup in MusicXML and assigned the lines to Halion7 sounds, Oboe, Violin and Cello. (These are the [GM 69, 41, 43] instruments.) They do work, but the sound is NOT GOOD. Also, I’m just learning modulators, but I feel like I really can’t even control volume well.

OK, so here’s my ?: I haven’t paid for any instrument packs yet, but can I get a good sound without paying hundreds of dollars for, say, Vienna Symphonic Library? I’m looking at the ProjectSam Free Orchestra, and it looks like it works with Kontakt7 Player.

I’m not trying to “cheap out” but I can’t be buying random instrument packs, cuz I think I’m still in “proof of concept” as to whether I can produce music at all or not.

”Should” I be able to get good sound with Halion7 or free Kontakt instruments? Where should I look for competent “free” sound?

Thanks!!

Your comment is nearly a year old now, but I wanna say thank you for this! I updated from 13 Pro to 14 Pro and this saved a lot of my projects
