VST3 Plugin Is Blacklisted and Won’t Get Unblocked

I upgraded to version 14 on April 1st, 2025, and completed the installation on an M4 Pro Mac mini.
The plugins work perfectly fine in Logic, but in Cubase, some of the VST3 plugins are blacklisted and won’t run.
Is there any way to unblock them?

Soothe 2 is working just fine here on two C14.0.20 systems with Win10 and 11.

If they are x86 platform you’ll need to run Cubase in Rosetta. My guess is that’s what you’re running into. Or just get Apple Silicon versions of the VST3s from the vendor.

I believe Logic is using AU versions. Different story, I guess.
You need to test it with a host that uses VST3 instead.

Well those are old Waveshells (we’re at 15 now), and Trash and Iris have been abandoned for years now (did either of those even get Apple Silicon releases?). Those may need some serious updates to pass Cubase’s ‘by the book’ VST3 requirements.

Trash got an uplift, and was re-released. You can still download and register previous purchases of Iris 2, but you can’t buy it anymore. You can’t use the VST in Apple Silicon, but Iris 2 does ship with an exposed AU which one can use to load inside of Blue Cat, so you can actually use that just fine inside Cubendo without Rosetta (and the stand-alone of Iris 2).

After some testing yesterday, here’s what I found:

  1. Cubase running under Rosetta loads all plugins without any issue.
  2. Cubase running natively only loads one or two plugins (like the updated AIR plugin), while the rest fail to load.

Fortunately, the main plugins I need are now working even in native mode, so I should be able to continue working without major issues.
Still, to take full advantage of the CPU and system performance, running Cubase natively is essential. If I have to rely on Rosetta, that would mean using only a fraction of the machine’s capability—which is quite disappointing from a Cubase perspective.

I hope the development team can ensure full native compatibility soon. It would be greatly appreciated!

Ah, I hadn’t even considered that it might be an issue on the third-party plugin developer’s side.

Glad it’s working! I agree in concept 100% - and I too only run native mode on all SB products (and Live). However, Apple has done a rather amazing job with Rosetta. It pre-compiles x86 code and caches it, optimizes it, etc so it’s actually incredibly fast. It wouldn’t be remotely accurate to characterize this a “a fraction of the machine’s capacity.” If anything, it’s the other way around - depending on the app, it only consumes minimal resources; potentially imperceivable as it was with my Logic Pro testing.

I’m sure there are many professional studios running Cubento under Rosetta who may have even forgotten they’re doing it, but that’s a different story.
