- Antares Autotune and Buffer Size Issue: In a project intended for live performance, I need to adjust the buffer size to reduce latency while using Antares Autotune. However, when setting the buffer size below 1024, my project fails to play properly, and the audio turns into continuous popping sounds. This is very difficult for me to understand. I also use Cubase 14 Pro, and when I reduce my RME UCX II interface buffer size to 48, Cubase 14 Pro continues to function normally. Given this, I believe the issue is not related to my computer’s processor (CPU i9 13, RAM 64 GB) or interface.
- Song Action Pre-Call Issue: When setting up the Song Action in VST Live, I configured it to “Start at Start Marker” and used the pre-call function. However, my project often fails to follow the pre-call bar number. Sometimes 2 bars ,sometimes 4 bars .Sometimes it works, but most of the time, it doesn’t. I am certain that the pre-call function is activated.
- Pre-Call Sound Issue: Another issue related to the pre-call function – when I activate it and start playing a specific section from the Setlist, the first beat always comes in much louder than expected. This is a serious problem, as it makes listening to the click uncomfortable.
- Dose any one have these problems?:((
From that point let me to explain later (at night probably)
Hi @hanashu , So, here am I!
About buffersize and etc… things…
the fact is, the problem is not in VSTLive for sure, but you are experiencing better performance using Cubase for sure (but it isn’t about performance diff between the two apps… * later will explain)
In the last year I did my best to have the lowest latency for live playing while doing all magic for the best sound quality possible. I have an i7, 16GB Win11 laptop, so your config is much stronger.
Just a few hints “we” need to deal in live situation:
- not all plugins are really good for live usage as they work with relative high processing latency… belive or not… e.g. UAD Precision Multiband has such a high latency even loaded directly to UAD console it makes it absolutely no go for live.
- some plugins are “ZERO LATENCY” mode (that puts more on CPU and bypasses or reduces processing buffer). I don’t know if that Plugin has ZERO mode. If not, or that version doesn’t have, then need to look for solution there.
- Cubase is using ASIO guard by default that increases processing buffer (therefore latency)… but finally you might feel it performs better, but actually reserves itself more time to do the same job.
- Also there is a Multi processing feature default enabled by Cubase, and VL has this too but not for default. The reason is that VL needs to handle video views, dmx, lyrics, etc… And some users find it better (e.g. me) leaving it off, while others enjoy multi-proc… you need to try it for your own.
- 2 months ago ordered an rack mountable audio-interface, and whatever I did it started cracling below 256samples, while two another audio-devices of mine went great with 128… even with 64samples (w.o. DMX… with DMX 128 seems to be the limit)
- and don’t forget, if you chain too much to process (I mean a synth, then insert this and that plugins, then again and again) the system needs to process everithing serial… and if they are heavy plugins, also with internal proc-buffer… latency will be present.
So again, I’m playing through VL currently with 128samples buffersize, but absolutely could go with 64samples if I woudn’t have some intensive DMX tracks too, but needed time to find the best possible combinations.
So go and start put your (i9) system to 128samples then try to bypass, remove, etc… elements in your signal chain to know where is the point that triggers craclings… and as I experienced, you can’t exclude your audio-interface from the possible reason.
Just for reference I use Antares auto tune pro (if I remember correctly there is a LIVE mode in preferences) on 2 vocal global stacks with 64 samples without issues (along with more or less 40 other plugins on various channels, 7 live stacks). CPU i7 ram 32gb, load more or less 30-40% (light load DMX tracks and videos also).
So there must be something else causing lag on your system ….
