Since you already sent your interface back, then Komplete Audio 6 may help you (it does not require additional driver installation for macOS). Unfortunately I couldn’t test this issue on my side anymore since I already returned mine several months ago (right after my previous test as what written in the 1st post).
I suggest other people who currently have such issue: try at least once contact Steinberg support prior to your product return, except for emergency occasions on-demand.
One more thing: regarding system downgrade, all current models of Macintosh computers (except MacBook Pro USB-3 models) are capable of installing macOS El Capitan (which is the OS version fully-supported by current Steinberg productline). When you power up your mac, press Option-Command-R on your built-in keyboard (or cabled keyboard) simultaneously when the startup sound articulates. This will lead you to online system installation and will allow you to install the factory system build with latest minor update. e.g.: MacBook Pro Retina late-2013, if using this method, will get macOS Mavericks 10.9.5 installed regardless the factory-shipped version 10.9.1 (customized build). Note that all Apple Support specialists are told / educated not to help users install those macOS builds older than their most-recent public release (possible exceptions may be made by their supervisors, probably from Apple headquarters).
In your case if I were you I would like to rent an driver-free audio interface (with CoreAudio support) from your local music equipment store. Your emergency won’t be effective for pushing Steinberg to the achievement of total compatibility, as they have their issues to solve one-by-one (plus their thorough comaptibility test for their entire product-line). // My suggested equivalent of UR22 (mkII) is Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6. However, you could check other brands as long as they have stable compatible driver released for macOS Sierra. Do check those audio-recording-related online communities to see whether their customers complain about the compatibility issues of certain products.
N.B.: Do not only update your Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver, but your UR22 mkII needs to have firmware update version no earlier than 1.03. I don’t have my device with me anymore but I guess this matters.
My MacOS Sierra version is 10.12.2.
To fix, I follow these 2 steps:
1 - Update driver to last version: 1.9.10
2 - Firmware upgrade to 1.03 version.
Rebooting problem is fixed, but, I dont have any sound in my speakers yet.
I’m having the same issue with the UR12! When I’m plugging or unplugging the interface, my MacBook reboots (tells me there was a problem so it had to) and then it sometimes does once more after i’ve logged in. Also I now downloaded the new driver (the installer manual of which states that the current version is compatible with OS 10.11.x but on steinberg.net above the download link for the very same version they state that it’s compatible with 10.12.!?)
As i tried to install the new driver my Mac rebooted again
Have you resolved the issue?
The firmware is the software or “code” that resides in the audio interface itself. In other words, the program that the processor inside the audio interface is running.
The driver is the program that the computer is running that allow it to communicate with the audio interface. For example, in Windows or Mac OS.
Hello.
I have the same problem for obvious reasons (Macbook 13", late 2012, running on Sierra).
BUT when i try to install the firmware update (v1.9.10.) my computer does exactly the same: shut down (“internal error”) the moment i connect the interface and klick on “start”. without connected interface there is no way of updating, is there?
