Hey guys,
Suddenly when recording I have no idication for wether the audio is clipping, I’ll explain:
With a distorted input:
- The meter doesn’t get to 0/above as expected
- The waveform of the audio track is not reaching to top - I made sure it is not zoomed out.
Have a look:
- Waveform:
- Meter while a distorted portion is being played:
How can I fix it so it indicates my as it once was, as expected?
What could possibly cause the issue?
A clip indicator can be found only on the Input Bus channel, not on an audio channel.
If your screenshot shows your own recording it looks like level was too high when it hit the ADC (analog to digital converter) but was attenuated later in the signal chain before it was recorded to hard disc.
Hi, thanks, you’re right, the thing is that my signal chain is simply mic->audio interface, therefore nothing should attenuate the level before it is recorded. Any ideas about what could cause this situation and how to resolve it?
The weirdest thing is that it begun to behave this way spontaneously - before it was always indicating clipping via meter & waveform
One way to achieve clipping is to turn up the mic pre-amp too much or have the mic to close to the sound source and then to lower the level of the Input Bus in Cubase.
As I said, Cubase can only indicate a clipped signal on the Input Bus (and on the Output Bus), nowhere else in the program as clipping can only occur at those stages.
For clipping on input you need to tame the signal level before the signal gets converted from analog to digital. This conversion happens in your audio interface.
