Wavelab 12, DVD mastering?

Hello,
I’m a new user of Wavelab.
In Wavelab 11.2 it was possible DVD mastering.
In wavelab 12 no.
Why?

This technology is considered obsolete from a market perspective, and maintaining it would incur costs.
Additionally, to avoid burdening WaveLab with excessive features, it is sometimes beneficial to streamline the interface by removing outdated elements.
That said, you can still use WaveLab 11.2 if you need to create a DVD-Audio, a feature introduced 20 years ago in WaveLab 5.
The focus has shifted elsewhere, as you can see from the new feature set.

Certainly the market point of view has changed and simplifying the interface of a software is important, but I don’t see why throwing away twenty years of work instead of expanding it (such as frequencies and bits) up to audio-bluray discs for example. To say that this part of development for final audio products with better quality than CD (for example Audio BD 192KHZ/32 bit float) is now obsolete is not at all correct.

Every feature incurs maintenance and support liabilities - if the code stays in the product, it has to be maintained, tested and supported. WaveLab’s DVD Audio authoring has become of increasingly niche interest as the market for “better than CD quality” audio has moved away from optical discs.

WaveLab has focused on features more relevant to current market needs, so @PG1 and Steinberg have understandably decided to retire the DVD Audio authoring feature to concentrate available development, testing and support efforts on features relevant to more users. Anyone with a WaveLab 12 licence can install and use WaveLab 11.2 for DVD Audio authoring. You can prepare files using the latest version of WaveLab for which you have a licence and then use those files to author a DVD Audio disc using WaveLab 11.2. WaveLab 11.2 will remain supported for some years and will likely keep working once it is unsupported.

I think you can take Phillipe’s post as a clear statement that he and Steinberg have no interest in “better than CD quality” optical disc authoring in the future. If you are interested in BD Audio authoring, you will need to acquire a suitable authoring tool.

Thanks for the clarification.

The technology per se is not obsolete, but this is not what I said.
What I said is that the market (“people”) is not interested (unfortunately), in this technology.
Many people have never heard about DVD-Audio, and hardware DVD players that are compatible with DVD-Audio are extremely rare to find today.

I understand,
Unfortunately it’s true.
