Wavelab Feature Request: Quick Icons underneath Bitmeter

Feature request:

Any chance we could have “Audio File”, “Audio Montage”, “Batch Processor”, “Script” as little icons directly underneath Bitmeter / Plugins? Right now its empty / wasted real estate.

Check out my screenshot.

Thanks!

Sorry, not possible. These are the only 3 options:

What is the Plugins toolbar on the top left for?

Try it and you see…

I’m probably overlooking something really obvious - but this PLUG-INS item has always been greyed-out and is not clickable or seem to do anything… so I’d like to ask the same question!

This tab is enabled when you create or open a batch processor.

Thank you for explaining. You have done impressive work allowing users to dock meters and tool windows. Why wouldn’t you name that Batch Processor Plugins or Batch Plugins instead?

I think the way to access batch processor plugins is not consistent with the other parts of WaveLab where plugins can be accessed. There is a plan to change this in the future.

I also see, the Batch Processor works without Master Section.

Could it be that my question was misunderstood?

I would like to see the mentioned icons in my main work environment. Right now I have to click 3 times before I reach any of those major menu areas (example: I have to click in the top menu “File ► New ► Batch Processor”.

Why not just add the “Batch Processor” icon along with the other “New File” icons somewhere to the work environment? If it’s not possible on the left side (even thought there is ample empty space), why not add them to the top icon area (where there is even more empty space)?

My point being: Why are these icons hidden on second and third layers, when there is more than enough space to show these icons permanently? Is it done, so it makes it harder for us to find them? Like an Easter egg hunt for important menu icons? (;

In Cubase I can design my icon task bar as I wish. In WaveLab, it seems I cannot do that. I can’t even add these four important “New file” icons anywhere.

Doing what you suggested simply moves exiting icons left or right, but it does not make these four icons in question visible in my work environment.

Again, this is a feature request. So no hurry. Just an idea to make things more streamlined and efficient.

I just find it’s a shame, that so much display real estate in my main windows is wasted and left empty, without any means for us to customize or add icons…

There is a much more direct way:

I assume what the OP @avviano wants now is possible only for Tool Windows and Meters.

There is a naming error in the shortcut menu.
First short cut opens an empty batch processor
Second short cut is to open batch processor
Third is to create new batch processor.

As a long-time WaveLab user who doesn’t use the software daily, I’ve noticed usability challenges regarding icon accessibility that could be improved (I don’t work extensively with shortcuts in apps I don’t use daily, but would need visual cues, like icons, which is more aligned with my workflow):

Current Issues:

  • Essential icons are often hidden in second and third-level menus
  • The four main icons prominently displayed in the start menu become less accessible in the main work environment (like BatchProcessor).
  • Frequent need to search for commonly used icons reduces workflow efficiency
  • Available screen space isn’t fully utilized for frequently needed controls

Suggested Improvements:

  1. Implement a customizable toolbar similar to Cubase, allowing users to:
    • Choose which icons remain permanently visible
    • Organize icons based on individual workflow preferences
    • Create personalized icon layouts

Benefits:

  • Improved efficiency for occasional users (e.g., podcasters)
  • Better learning curve for new users
  • More intuitive workflow for non-daily users
  • Reduced need for workarounds (like keeping paper reminders)

While I currently use a printed reminder next to my screen as a workaround, a customizable toolbar would be a more elegant solution that could benefit many users. This would maintain WaveLab’s powerful functionality while improving its accessibility for both occasional and regular users.

Note: Currently, there appears to be ample empty space in the interface where frequently used icons could be permanently displayed without cluttering the workspace.

FYI you already have a similar solution - the ‘Tab Search and Keyword’ menu on the Command Bar.

Not sure I understand what you mean. If you are referring to the “Customize Command Bar”, that doesn’t let you choose which icons to display, only which predetermined icons to display.

I’m referring to the ‘Tab Search and Keyword’ menu found on the Command bar. It looks like this:

This is a customisable menu. Like I said it’s similar in purpose to what you are suggesting but of course it’s not icons. You can put any available function in this menu (including the batch processor) using keywords and you can also select different tabs by typing a tab name into the menu.

I doubt you’ll get icons very soon (if ever) so this menu helps while you’re waiting.
