Wavelab Pro 12.0.10 losing clip effect automation, but only on main montage file (not backups)

Hello everyone!

Had a concerning issue pop up in several different montages today – Wavelab 12 was losing any clip effect automation I had when I reopened the montage (a small imager on/off move, subtle eq move shift for a different section of a song, etc).

But this was only happening when I opened the “main” montage file – by that I mean the one that appears in the project folder defined by where it was initially saved – if I opened any of the backups in the backup folder, the automation was there, on the clip as it should be.

THEN I resaved over the current “main” montage from one of the backups – and when I reopened that the automation was gone again. And ditto for if I even saved the backup file – automation gone after reopening. This happened across at least two montages today!

Any idea what’s going on? Definitely an issue since it’s a big deal to lose that if there are revisions to take care of. Thanks!

I hardly see what it can be. But if you have a montage with Steinberg plugins (so that I can reproduce), please upload (no audio needed).

I just did some quick tests. For me nothing is missing, it’s just not displaying immediately.

I created a new montage with a random audio clip, added an EQ from Steinberg as clip effect and made a random automation curve for one paramter.
I saved the whole thing - having the Clip tab in the Inspector active and the automation curve for the effect selected/visible - and closed WaveLab.

Now when I opened WaveLab again and loaded the montage, I noticed that I couldn’t see or access the automation curve in the Inspector, but I could still see the actual curve in the clip. Strange, gone but also not gone.

After that, I loaded a backup-montage that opened with the Inspector set to Output, I switched to Clip again and the automation curve was there.
So I opened the original montage again and just switched the Inspector tab from Clip to Track and back, and everything was fine and as intended. Adding a new automation curve did the same trick.

WaveLab Pro 12.0.10, Win 11 Pro 23H2.

I see, I can reproduce. But this is only a display issue, the inspector slot is not updated correctly. If you click on a second clip, then back to the 1st one (with the automation), then you will see the proper inspector automation slot. This needs to be fixed, of course (this was probably so in WaveLab 11 too).

No, seems like WaveLab 11.2.0 is working as expected here. It shows immediately all curves in the Inspector after loading a montage.

Thanks PG! Wonderful to know. Appreciate you looking into this

What you said is exactly right – just clicking on another clip and back again brings back access to the envelopes in my clip view. Thank you!

This display will be fixed in WaveLab 12.0.20
