WaveLab Strange Behaviors (with videos and screenshots)

Hi

Instead of creating several new topics for each subject, I decided to post my new findings of strange WaveLab behaviors here with the purpose of figuring out, if some of it is normal, whether it’s a bug, if there are workarounds, etc.

1). The first one is not a big deal, but I still wanted to point it out how some marker buttons can get “stuck” when mousing over them:

2). This one is weird, and I’m not sure what it means. When zooming in/out in the audio montage some black, diagonal lines appear, but not always:

3). This one is more annoying - I hope there is a workaround. Basically, when I select a track and make it active and then use Shift + Left / Right keys to select a range, then it only works on the top track. But if I select any of the tracks below it and try to do the same, it just goes back to the top and makes the top track active again, and therefore only range-selects on the top track:

I will keep posting my new findings by replying to this topic.

What screen scaling do you have? Maybe it’s the video quality, but the scaling seems to be unusual. The best scaling are 100%, 200%, and 150% to a lesser degree. Anything else could cause graphic side effects.

3 This seems to be a bug, sorry. I note it to be fixed.

1080p, 150% dpi

I know, you said, that its not the most optimal setup, and it’s not supported, but it’s the only thing that works for me at the moment, and it has for years. My entire setup depends on it with other programs that scale nearly perfectly and AHK scripts to enhance their accessibility (for rebinding hotkeys that can’t be rebound, adding extra hotkeys to the same functions, making repetitive tasks easier for the sake of ergonomics and to prevent carpal tunnel, etc.). Some of those scripts are using image recognition, meaning they will stop working at lower dpi.

My eyesight is not the best, and I tried glasses, but they give me headache. That is why 150% dpi is such a good balance for me. Otherwise I would have used 100% dpi or a higher resolution screen.

It seems to work ok in WL, too, but sometimes the interface is a bit jittery, and there is not enough space on the screen for certain menus on the ribbon. But I can still access them, as they seem to be “minimized”, when there is not enough space for them.

When trying to resize certain panels, it also acts weird, as I described in one of my my previous topic, but I can live with that, because I can just undock those panels and hide or show them with hotkeys, individually.

There are two more minor inconveniences, when running WL with my current setup.

1). The File menu on the ribbon - I need to maximize it in order to see all the menus at the bottom.

2). The transport panel at the bottom sometimes doesn’t show. So I have bound the fullscreen function to F11 hotkey, which I press twice, when that happens, and then it corrects itself.

So it’s not a big deal - I can live with that. It requires a few workarounds, though.

Here is another video of the “weird lines” problem. It was a struggle to upload the video because of the 4MB limit. This is recorded in 125% dpi (that’s why I can upload fewer seconds of a video), but 150% dpi seems to have the same “flickering line effect”. 100% dpi seems to be ok.

As you mentioned in another thread that you are experimenting with customized color schemes - and the colors of the clips in your video do look pretty customized to me - do these visual glitches also happen with default colors?

Yep, it’s the same with default (light an dark) themes for both the audio montage and the whole WaveLab itself. And I also installed WaveLab 11, and it’s the exact same thing. Colors don’t seem to affect the appearance of diagonal lines - it’s only the DPI.

Would be nice, if someone in here with a 1920 x 1080 monitor could test it out, just to see if it’s a general problem, or if it’s something on my end.

To recap: 100% dpi = no lines, but 125%, 150% and even 175% dpi = lines start appearing. The lines do seem to have a somewhat random behavior, when I zoom in or out, or when I move left or right.

Also, when I select a clip with a mouse click, no lines, but when I range select, the lines appear. And another thing, look here:

I will have a look at this envelope line issue, but not in the near future.

When dragging around in the ruler, I’m assuming it’s called, it seems kind of slow and clunky. I also tested it with 100% dpi, and it’s the same behavior.

Also, I can’t find the option to disable zooming, when dragging up and down.

Here is a Cubase comparison:

This is what my WL12 pro looks like, right after I launch it (150% dpi). The window at the bottom seems to go way beyond the screen space, and therefore seems cut off:

When I press this button (called “Full Screen” under Shortcuts)… :

…then then the entire window of WL seems to realign itself and the Transport Panel at the bottom appears:

It looks like this is somehow associated with the envelope’s end point.
