I came across a strange behavior of trills during a slight tempo change.
Example is attached.
Weird triller demo.dorico (421.6 KB)
First of all these are multinote tremolos as notated rather than trills strictly speaking and I’ve always found playback of these to be rather erratic in Dorico the minute you introduce a gradual tempo change. With NotePerformer the issue is actually worse – if you try normal trills with NP you get all kinds of strange behaviour the minute you introduce a rit. ,particularly excessive dynamics. This was discussed in another thread and Arne advised simply writing out the trill or tremolo in full in these sort of cases which does largely sort the issue. With a conventional trill in most third party libraries not using NotePerfomer technology, the trills are sampled so the problem does not arise.
Best create a separate hidden staff to write out your tremolo in full and disable playback for the notated staff.
I should mention that I encountered nearly exact the same effect with another than the Noteperformer playback template.
That’s why I posted it here.
Interesting that this is (sort of) a known problem and thanks for your proposal with the hidden staff - will try that.
yes, the notated trills problems are NotePerformer-specific. Playback issues with notated multinote tremolos are of much more generic nature.
You’ve got me wrong - Noteperformer-specific is not what I observed, so I deduced it must be a Dorico issue (btw also on the newest 5.1.10).
it is a Dorico issue, just as you say. NotePerformer is only an issue with trills and you were notating a tremolo in that score. We’re entirely in agreement – it’s perhaps just a language or semantics confusion!
