What are the steps I need to take in Dorico to get this snare drum notation?

Whenever I try to put the accent on the tied quarter note, it auto slides over to the 1st tremolo quarter.

Thank you,

Thanks!

Now how do I get the accent to sound on the last note in the chain?

If memory serves, the accent will still sound on the first note of the tie chain. I believe my old workaround was to use a slur instead.

See my comment above.

I can get it to look correct with ties. I also tried slurs.
Both methods don’t sound correct. A five stroke roll that’s tied with an accented quarter as shown, should accent the last note in the chain. Also, it sounds like a machine gun.

What library are you using for percussion? Dorico tries, but if it doesn’t have pre-recorded rolls, it will sound like the dreaded machine gun. As for the accent on the quarter (under a slur), that should definitely be accented.

If one wants an accent on the release note, the obvious way to assure that result is not to tie the release note to the tremolo. That would be clear to just about any player reading that .

I’m sure there are traditions that would read what you have and play what you want, but Dorico is not one of them.

You can set this under Library->Playback Options->Timing->Tremolo if you want it played like a roll.

Slurs seems to be the best way, while boosting the velocity of last note in roll in the key editor.

This is a workable solution.

I also found this type of Dorico Tremolo marking which works with ties.

I asked this very question a while ago and the solution was to add another snare instrument which can be used to add a note at the point the accent is required. Then, in Engrave mode, hide the note head. Once the additional snare is created, it takes only a few seconds to add then hide the note required for the accent. I’d look up the original thread but I’m on the road at the moment!

That you! I knew something like that was added fairly recently but I couldn’t put my finger on it.
