Hey everyone,
what happened to the old Tap Tempo feature in Cubase. In earlier versions, there used to be a way to tap the tempo either with the spacebar or the mouse, and that was really cool. You could literally just play the click in rhythm using the spacebar.
Now, in the current version, I can only find a tap function in the transport section, and it only lets me tap with the mouse. That’s not ideal for me because tapping with the spacebar just feels more accurate and natural. Tapping with the mouse has a different feel and timing, and it’s not the same. So I’m wondering , is the spacebar option hidden somewhere now? Or is it completely deleted? And if it is removed, why? It was such a simple and useful feature.
Tap tempo is shift+space by default. That should still work in Cubase 14; it definitely does for me. As far as I’m aware, just space bar has always been the shortcut for starting playback. Might be different if you’ve changed your keybinds manually.
Read more about it in “Tap tempo mode” in the manual!
It will insert the ‘tapped’ tempo at the cursor. Have the cursor at the start of the project to have it be the project tempo.
Click the arrow sympol on the right of “Tap” and make your choices; there are several.
I strongly dislike the new tap tempo experience. I don’t want this to be a thing on the transport, which is cluttered enough already. If I just utilize the keyboard shortcut then the visual feedback is too hidden.
Worst of all, I don’t get to decide if I want to insert the tapped tempo AFTER I tap it… it’s just a preference that I now need to toggle back and forth.
Worster of all… a couple of errant keyboard clicks and now I’ve got random tempo events in my project if I mistakenly did not set this back to “Display Only”
