I think you would get the (Ped) because it is a continuation from the system (measure(s)) previous. The other, Ped, would be the start. Is this true?
(Ped.) is a continuation normally found under the first bar of a system.

(Ped) appears as a pedal line continues onto another system.
You can change the appearance in Engraving Options.
