This is from an American shape-note book, mid-19th century. What are these notations? They look like first and second endings, but there’s no repeat structure.
No verses?
There are 6 stanzas, only the first printed in the staff.
What about the small one and two? Don’t they indicate first and second time through?
That’s what I thought, but there’s no repeats. It’s just one time though per stanza, 6 stanzas.
Maybe the 2 is generic for “final ending.”
