In the download assistant there are tons of VST Plugins/sound loops etc. listed that I can download. I found that some have no problem and I can use them and some I download but when I go to use them the sounds/instruments are shown as unavailable (red x think and they are grayed out).
Is there a list of what downloads come with my Artist version? I assume that’s my problem, some come with Artist and maybe some other are only available to Pro or purchase.
I don’t know why they put things on there with no message that I need to buy it in order to use it.
The SDA has a “tab” called “My Product Downloads”. This tells you what you own. EG click on Cubase and on the right panel will appear all the downloads associated with it.
I saw that however, that doesn’t cover everything. It seems to only have the programs and not the content. Halion is in there but not the sounds like FM lab, Flux, Skylab etc. Those are all listed in the VST instrument tab and that’s where half work and the other do not. As far as I can tell you have to download and try it to see if it works or not.
Yep. Purchased 7 when it came out.
But notice that Halion 7 shows up in your product downloads, and it shows Tales and FM Lab. So those two I assume came with it. But if you go down to your VST Instruments & Plugins those will still show up along with tens of other plugins. So how do I know which ones will work and which ones won’t. Hope that made sense.
In the left pane when you select anything in the My Products section, the right pane shows you everything you are licensed to use & nothing that you don’t have a license to use.
The Updates section similarly only shows items you own.
The sections below those show the entire Steinberg product line - aka everything you do own and everything you don’t own. Don’t look in these sections to figure out what you own. And don’t load stuff from here unless you have a specific need for some reason (and you don’t).
Content HALion 7 contains the bulk of what you are licensed to use which is all the “older” content plus there are 2 newer libraries which need too be downloaded on their own. Any other stuff you downloaded won’t be licensed.
I think what was confusing is that the big initial content download contains a bunch of different items which aren’t clearly defined so it’s not clear what is & isn’t included in it.
Thanks for the replies. It is a bit confusing.
I downloaded several of the instruments/sound and about half of them work. If they all didn’t work I would understand that I’m not licensed for that section.
Below is what I downloaded and again half of these are fine which lead to my confusion.
Anyway, thanks again.
Basically you need to delete all the unlicensed libraries you downloaded, which is probably gonna be hard to sort out. The easiest might be to delete everything so you are starting from a clean slate. And then reinstall only the libraries you own.
Another possibility to get an overview about products that come with your Cubase version is Steinberg’s direct download site. You just need to scroll down to your license and install whatever is listed here
Moreover, it might be helpful to know about this possibility in case the SDA does not work.
It shouldn’t be too bad to sort. Once I open a plugin, and search “all” for sounds/instruments I can make note of the groups that have a red x on it and know that it has to be removed. The whole organization of the SDA while well intended, needs some improving. Like I mentioned, there are instruments that work fine and I had no idea that I had access to them.
Thanks to all for the help.
