Where are presets stored

Can someone please tell me how I can save the presets such as connections settings, tool bar , transport panel, transport bar? So the next time someone tells me to trash all the presets, I don’t have to re configure them.
Thanks

The presets for different things are stored in a variety of places. There is a full documentation available - sorry, I dont have it at hands currently. But a search will help you for sure.
You can navigate to the cubase settings folder via the start menu in windows. If you save the complete folder your presets are safe and ready to be restored.

And whats really fun, some of them are NOT even in the location listed but are hidden within the app folder itself (on OSX right click on the Cubase icon and choose “Show Package Contents”.

I had to do a funky search function for files changed in the last hour and had to save and/or delete some of the presets in the vsts or other places to find where they’re located.

A bit of a mess that I hope will get fixed someday - probably won’t tho.

Yes, it is a mess. But it could be solved easily: The physical locations of the presets should not matter to the user anyways. THe developers could simply include a menu that allows to backup and restore the various presets by “logical” selection without needing to know where they pysically are located. Thus they would not need to consolidate physically.

What, like profiles?

Oh great, are we sure that they can store “everything”? I did not think of that - but it is of course a great option. Are there any limitations ?

I just tested it as I haven’t really used it either, and it sadly doesn’t save everything you want (like your project color settings, or more importantly, mix console settings). It is a good idea, just doesn’t go far enough imho.

MAybe this is because they themselves have lost track of all the various options

It IS a mess…

Here’s what you got to do:

Audio Connections
Control Room Presets:
C:/User/Name/AppData/Roaming/Steinberg/Cubase14_64/Presets/
=> ControlRoomPresets.pxml

Inputs and Outputs
C:/User/Name/AppData/Roaming/Steinberg/Cubase14_64/Presets/
=> RAMPresets.xml

RAMPresets also include:
-Tool Bar Presets
-Crossfade Presets
-Quantize Presets
-Track Control Presets
-Transport Panel Presets
-VST Connections Presets
-Zoom Presets

@comsax1 : If you want to make sure you have got all you asked for and then some save your current profile as well because it includes:
-Preferences
-Toolbar settings for all windows
-Global workspaces
-Track control settings
-Track control presets
-Presets for input and output busses
-Plug-in collections
-Quantize presets
-Crossfade presets
-Key commands

If you want to save and export your profile make sure that you
follow these steps .
Hope that helps.

Much easier to regularly backup your whole computer (which you should do anyway)…
Apart from that, I once in a while do a whole copy of the %APPDATA\Steinberg\Cubase_XX-Folder with a timestamped name…

Yes, I do that sort of backup as well (I also include other main folders) on a regular basis.
However, as I am working on two different rigs I also need to synchronize presets whenever I apply some minor changes. Most of the time the profile.srf will do the job. Much easier than to copy and paste Gb of data to update just a few things like Plugin Collections. For that purpose I have a folder with links that direct me to the locations of my most changed presets. I have been doing this for years now and it’s fine. But it’s still not like “This dude knows exactly what he’s doing” kind of fine, though.

Thank you , do you mean copy and store the pmxl, and the xml? Also how do I save a profile with the complete current settings?

Yes, copy and store them in a dedicated folder with a timestamp.
Have a look at my previous post #10 - the word “steps” is coloured blue and serves as a hyperlink to a thread that explains how to correctly save a profile.
Another thing: whenever you save a current profile make sure to include the date in the name like Profile250310.

Thank you soo much, wish I had this info 20 years ago, it would have saved me lots of time!

You are welcome  !

As they say, better late than never, yada yada yada…

Indeed, this is a huge time saver which served me well over the years. Most importantly, at least for me, it gives you the freedom to update different rigs in no time with minimum effort once you get used to the routine. Please make sure to always be aware which exact presets and settings are saved in these files in case you want to save other things like 3rd party User Presets or whatnot.

May the Profile be with you :vulcan_salute:
