Where do my MIDI devices appear by default? "MIDI Remote" vs. "Remote devices (legacy)"

Hi everybody,

I have set up Cubase 15 Pro on a new computer, and connected my two MIDI devices (those are just examples for my case) …:

  • Komplete Control S49
  • Nektar Panorama CS12

… to the computer before starting Cubase.

I did not configure anything from my side, everything simply appeared and works fine.

But I am curious and want to understand:

What makes one device appear under “MIDI Remote”, while the other one appears as item under “Remote Devices (Legacy)“?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

If the hardware vendor wrote dedicated component, then the device appears in the Remote Devices section. This was the old way.

If the hardware vendor wrote a MIDI Remote script, the device appears in the MIDI Remote section. This is the new way.

The users can write the MIDI Remote Devices, as it’s much easier and they have full access to the API.
