Which desk/table should I use

I’m looking for the right desk/table to use with my piano set up. Working with guitar is easy but have not yet found the right table set up when working with my piano. I have a Roland 2000 EX on a X shaped stand. I’m recording on Cubase/laptop with my Tascam Audio Workstation. I need a table that will allow me to play the piano while comfortably working Cubase and the Audio workstation without having to break neck and arms to reach them. I thought about the one attached but not sure it would be the right one. Any thoughts? I’ll put it another way then. What do you folks use for the above?

Mike

Unfortunately, there is not an easy solution or a “one size fits all”. To use cubase and your workstation effectively, it is best to have your computer behind your midi keyboard so you can look at the sreen while playing. I don’t use a laptop and I have a wireless computer keyboard and mouse which helps. A have used a laptop desk before like the one you link to. They are pretty nice and adjustable. Here is a pic of my set up lol. I have a small table to the right for my mouse, and I can move the computer keyboard out of the way when I need to.

Man y thanks for your reply Mic-E-Muzic much obliged. I agree it’s quite a challenge to find the right set up. I will keep trying. Thanks again Mike

Looks like DeFi took over the Output Platform, which also seems a bit more expensive than when I purchased mine, but that’s a solid desk for the money, and not too hard to disassemble and move about when you need to.

I have a Buso Producer as well, and it’s more of a pain to assemble (plus it’s a bit pricey) but the layout is quite nice and they have a number of different models. The downside is that those take a while to ship, and they aren’t exactly “moveable” once you have them assembled and in place - you need 2 or 3 people to move them around because they’re kind of modular, and if you try to scoot one end out, it will bend the desk and stress the assembly points.

Even so, they’re pretty nice.

Hi,

I’m afraid I have no clue what your setup should look like to be honest…

First of all - no speakers, just headphones, right?
The question is: Do you want your keyboard on the side and your laptop and Tascam (what kind of workstation is it, btw?) in front of you? Or do you want them on the side with your keyboard in the centre?
If you are looking for something super light and moveable like the table above then anything will do I’d think? I would go for something that is at least medium solid with a certain weight to it and most of all with brakes…

If you want everything in front of you then it’s gonna be some sort of desk which will be more on the solid side. You can either go for standard workstations or you could consider to go for a DIY solution like a slide-board under your desk.

But first of all - what exactly do you have in mind

Hi Reco29 thanks for your reply.

It’s a ascam US-4x4HR USB Audio Interface I think I want keyboard in the centre.

Yes pretty much, I will have to think about it

I think I will have to consult my joiner pal.

Good question, I just want to record my songs. Some piano some guitar and some both. I have pleny space it’s getting my working area comfortable I guess. Thanks again Mike

Anytime

Something I’d keep in mind:
In theory, you’ll just need a couple of items like keyboard, guitar, laptop and headphones.
In reality, there are cables, plecs, leadsheets, tuner, mic stand, mugs, lights, sustain pedals, additional outboard gear… you get my drift. It’s getting messy very easily if you don’t have something to put it onto.
Also ask yourself, if you need a visual feedback while tracking - some do, others don’t. Since you don’t have to be in between your speakers with cans on that might help to make up your mind.

Good luck !

I used headphones a lot and now my hearing is shot to pieces. Be careful.

Yes I’m afraid years of playing in loud bands has ruined my hearing. If I don’t use headphones the level I have to listen to speakers is intolerable to others around me,
