Hi, Can anyone give me advice on the best kind of screen to use with Cubase please?
do I need a 4K screen? or will HD screen suffice, any help much apreciated…thanks.
IMO, the best compromise for Cubase (in a “one screen only” setup) is using a good enough 32" monitor at 2560 x 1440. No need to worry about HiDPi, 4K, etc., this with enough area to work comfortably. After this…
It totally depends on your personal situation (money, real estate on desk/at wall).
Cubase still isn’t 100% great at scaling, as reported by several customers. So maybe a 4k resolution is not preferable. Then again, there are plenty of people working with 4k resolutions.
An alternative might be a multi monitor setup. Two or three full HD or 2560’s might fit your situation better.
What @cubic13 said.
I currently use a 49" screen - 5120 x 1440. Used to have two 32" 2560 x 1440.
(Anyone remember when it was a fixed 600 x 400?)
Indeed. Really do wish people would state their budget when asking what to get.
OH sorry I didn’t mention budget…800GBP is my budget, I have been using a 4 screen rig, one of the screens is in my vocal booth for lyrics, it seems from the couple of answers that there is no preferred screen, just thought there may have been a particular screen that was a favourite with Cubase, so it seems that 4 full HD’s would do it…
Monitor screens are refreshingly interchangeable from a technical point of view.
So it is really up to your personal situation which way to go.
I have an ultra wide monitor. I love it, but all depends how you work and what you want on the screen simultaneously. I have half screen on arrangement and half screen on mixer.
I’ve had five years of my Electriq 35" WQHD Ultrawide Curved Monitor and I wouldn’t be without it. Plenty of real estate for plugin windows etc. and opening up the mixer window is pure joy. I see they now make a 49" QLED Full HD 144Hz Super UltraWide for under £500.
That’s an intersting looking screen mate…thanks for the info…gonna take a look.
These can take some getting used to - everything is curved! Also, ote how big the footprint of the stand is.
TBH I took to it straight away. The curve is very slight, but it has a glorious wrap around feel to it. Very immersive, if that isn’t being too pretentious
This is how my workstation is set up with the mixer window maximised. The footprint of the stand is quite wide, maybe about 18" hidden just behind the Nektar. It beats the heck out of my dual monitor setup before this - I never looked back!
And this is an idea how the screen looks with a few (quite large) windows open
Your desk looks way too clean, dude. Nice stone wall.
Really appreciate all the info guys…thanks.
Agreed…
FWIW, it’s to be compared to the mess that is mine. The ashtray has disappeared since I stopped smoking, six years ago, but beer cans could still be seen…
Ha! You only saw the console … not what lurks either side and behind
Dual 27" 2K for me. One screen for the MixConsole, the other for the Arrangement.
I’d stay away from 4K unless you have either really good eyesight, or get something at least 43" or larger… I work for one of the display manufacturers and have gone through a few of them. Last one was a 32" 4K ‘Color Pro’ display that looked beautiful, but 4K is still too tiny to read on that screen, and 2K hits the CPU on a Mac due to scaling. 32" seemed a little too big for 2K resolution as head was moving a little too much to look at the different areas.
Current screens are a pair of 27" IPS from our lower end gaming lineup, so I’ve got both running at 144Hz on the Mac Mini as well (I can go up to 165 or 180 if I move them both to USB-C/DisplayPort).
So I’ve decided to go with 3 of these…https://www.samsung.com/ie/monitors/ultra-wide/ultra-wqhd-monitor-34-inch-ls34j550wquxen/
I like a lot of real estate…
Can’t comment on those particular monitors, but for me Ultra Wide is the only way to go. I’m really surprised that there hasn’t been more chatter about these screens on the forum. Good call
Hi Manassas, chat about screens was so now and then a issue here, at moments people use a laptop, or even a tablet, and everything is so tiny.
So if your set up with an ultra wide sreen is the best, then do it.
I use 2 screens here, and i can via HDMI even connect a third screen, because when you open more windows in Cubase, then you want that space in your screen.
How many connections for screens do you have on your computer?
1 big ultra wide screen is almost like 2 normal screens, so…
Usualy i have Cubase in 1 screen and instrument in the second screen.
This 2 LCD TV’s here are big screens.
So, i can understand that you take that ultra wide screen if that is the best for you.
Good luck.
