While Downloadng Dorico 5 Elements update, this message poped up

Hi Everyone,
While Downloadng Dorico 5 Elements update today, this message poped up and I do not know what to do about it. Should I do something about it? What steps should I take if any? It says that some of the content could not be opoened?

You have the Dorico contents files installed at a different location than the default. That is not a problem as such, but there where it is currently installed, you don’t have read permission as a normal user.
So you either go to the in that message box shown path and change accordingly the access rights, or you launch the Steinberg Library Manager and move them to the default location.

You may also have to give Steinberg Library Manager access to external drives, or give it Full Disk Access in System Settings > Security & Privacy.

Ok great, thank you!

Thank you!

Thank you, I did that, and hopefully that might help some of the issues.

Hi,
I’m not sure how to give certain files “permissions.” But I located a file, hit the info button, and it said that I had permission to read and write. Does this mean that I really did have permissions all along?

Hi,
How would I find the default location of where the files would normally be stored? I currently am trying to keep my vst files on my external hard drive, so that I do not saturate my computer hard drive. This is an area that is challenging for me.

That’s fine, you can do that, I mean storing vstsound-files on external drives.
your problem is just file access permissions.
but not only the files, also the rnclosing folders need to have read permissions. What happens when you do a doubleclick on a vstsound file which Dorico can’t see?

Your best bet woulds be to let Dorico install the sound files in the default location and then afterwards to use the stand-alone Steinberg Library Manager to move them to your external hard drive. Then you and Dorico will both know where to find them.

When I click on any of those files that it says cannot be opened, a message comes up saying that the sounds are already registered. Does this mean that these files have somehow fixed themselves?

No, unfortunately not. It just shows that the Library Manager can see the files and knows they are there, but the initial problem is still around.
So you need to change the file and folder permissions of those files, making sure that you as a user have full control over them.
Here is some general article on that topic.

The article is for Windows users. I am running a Mac. Do you have a permissions article for Apple users? Thanks!

OK, so I read an article about permissions for Mac and checked on that first file on the pop up message that I posted here, and it looks like I do have permissions.

Here is the info message:

Does this look ok to you Ulf?

Hi @rrgilley ,
to be honest, I"m also not 100% sure. If you give read access to “everyone”, does that make a difference.
Furthermore, what permissions does the enclosing folder (HALion Sonic SE Content) have? I’d also make that one readable for everyone.

OK, I will try that. Thank you!

Hi Ulf,
After I change all of the permissions to “everyone/Read & Write”, do I need to reinstall the Dorico 5 and Cubase 13 software?

No no, not at all. But a reboot would not be wrong. Then every process needs to reinitialize and therefore will see the changes.

Ok Great! Thank You!
