Congratulations Charle @musicullum - As a lover of electronic music, I started learning Cubase as a spotty teenager doing his GCSE exams back in 1989, on the Atari - alongside tracking on the Amiga of course. I still have the Atari dongle somewhere.
Cubase and tracking software has stayed with me. I got my first job in the video games industry in 1992 and have been using it ever since! So, you’re very much responsible for my entire career. Thank you, and once again congratulations!

WOW!! As someone who queued up and placed one of the first orders for Steinberg Pro 16 for the Commodore 64! at Rod Argent’s in Denmark Street, it’s great to say hello and thanks for all the inspiration. I’ve lost track of the number of releases that your software has been involved in !

But there are (and have been) a lot of people at Steinberg who deserve the majority of the rewards. That easily gets forgotten and it should not. So many colleagues have put years of work and passion into the products, my contribution is quite small related to theirs.
Unfortunately I cannot attend, but some of my colleagues are.

Congratulations to the award!
I can imagine that it was probably a lot of blood, sweat and tears especially in the beginning, but it must have also be rather exciting and gratifying to have been at the forefront of a technological revolution and help change the future of music making.
Don’t forget about the butterfly effect!
You were the one who brought this butterfly into the world, no one else could have done it your way. Without you, your colleagues might be working somewhere else, and we might all be using different DAWs.
No one can say things would be worse, but many of us can say – keep your butterfly alive!

It definately was. We worked 16 hrs/day, but it was so motivating, as there just were no questions. Everybody did their job based on the rapid evolution of technology, there was only one direction, and you didn’t have to think about what’s next, as there was so much new stuff and opportunities on the way. That’s invaluable.

Music can change the world, and MIDI has changed music but it wasn’t until the DAW was invented, that anything became possible, and Steinberg was there from the beginning.

I wouldn’t count the amount of lines of code. It’s also the kind of human being that you are. The vibes that you sent out shaped the company, it set the tone. It drew people to the company who, in return, made great contributions to how we can create music.

Congratulations, Charlie! You really deserve the award! I have been a happy Steinberg user since the start when I bought the Steinberg Multitrack Recorder for the C64 from Amphouse (or was it Amptown?), Hamburg (in 1984 if I remember correctly).
