Is there any way to allow more vertical space in galley view? I’m getting things overlapping. Thanks!
Perfect. Thanks!
Good evening!
I know this response is almost 2 years old but I’ve followed the instructions you posted and there’s no affect on the staves in question.
I’m working on a transcription that has a conga drums and drum set together as a “staff group” and I need to expand the spacing in galley view. Those instructions had no affect on the spacing of this grouping. What am I missing or doing wrong??
Screen shot attached.
Thanks!
Kerry
Try increasing the staff to staff gap value on the Vertical Spacing page of Layout Options.
Daniel… If it only affected galley view, this solution would be fine. The only staves having the spacing issue are the Conga I&II and the Drum Set. The almost overlap makes it difficult to see what I’m doing in the congas.
Is the only alternative for me to write in page view?
KM
Can you attach the project itself here, so I can take a look?
Daniel,
It’s galley view that’s the problem for me. Since we’re supposed to be doing our input using galley view, Dorico should properly space staff groups like the conga and drum set group. Instead, those staves are crammed together.

I suggest you set In galley view, expand ideal staff gaps to on the Vertical Spacing page of Layout Options to 200%.
Hi @Kerry_Moffit,
besides the suggestion above that gives you more space in Galley view, I took the liberty to make some adjustments to your Project (because going through your Project, looking for better settings for your conga collision issue, I found some optimisable things).
You can of course ignore this “adjusted” version, but it basically shows that you can obtain a good layout with good global settings, without the need of manual/local changes, and without overrides. (I hope it may be helpful.)
2024-12-20 10-24-01_Geo Rose-OVERRIDES etc… CORRECTED.dorico (2.1 MB)
In particular what I did:
removed pages overrides, system spacing overrides, and increased the inter-system gap that you had set to 1 (!) (default is 10): all those probably in your attempt to fit two systems into the first page/music frame.
Beside those corrections I adjusted the music frame margins and page margins, so that you win some space and have now 2 systems in the first page but with no overrides, no manual adjustments, and now even with 4.40mm staff (instead the 3.70mm staff that you had) so you have a bigger Rastral Size, but still maintaining the Letter size.
Some other minor adjustments:
. deactivated custom player order in Layout Options, and instead dragged the players in the desired order directly in Setup mode
. set the Minimum inter-system gap with content at the default 2
.set the threshold for Justify distance only between systems when frame is at least… to 90% fullness
You can see all these differences if you compare your file with this version, through the Library manager.
Good morning,
I only have a moment to engage. I did reset the Ideal Staff Gaps to 200% but that affected all but the 2 percussion staves. My thought is that the bracket used is somehow inhibiting adjustments to the percussion staves.
Have to go teach and play a gig…

Did you see the answer and file from @Christian_R ?
Jesper
Thank you!
I’ll have a look at it in a few minutes. Been gigging, teaching, and doing house stuff for the holidays.

See the response I just sent… Been rather busy…
