Why am I getting so much dynamic variation (velocity)?

Why are the velocities fluctuating so much here?
The passage is of 1/8th notes on the piano, only marked “p”.
There are no other markings (accents etc.).
There is no change of dynamics instructed.

I have the “automatic polyphonic instrument voice balancing” turned off, so it is not a function of that.

I am also noticing that my piano is not separating the dynamics for left and right hand (this issue is different from the above where only one hand is playing).

I have the automatic voice balancing off, and I have the “Independent Voice Playback” enabled on the piano:

There is a “p” written for the RH and an “mp” written for the LH:

And yet I am clearly getting a bump up to “mp” dynamics in the RH, exactly where the LH dynamic marking is placed:

In addition to adding separate dynamics on each staff of the instrument, I believe you also need to ensure that the dynamic in each staff is voice-specific, i.e. created by typing Alt+Return to confirm the popover, with the caret pointing to the right voice.

This is due to the Humanisation settings of Dorico, I think. I f you don’t want/need this function try to deactivate it:

And don’t forget to zero the beat stress settings as well. But basically if you want completely even dynamics according to what’s notated, you need to disable all the humanisation settings under the “dynamics “ tab. Better is to learn for yourself which settings work for you and which should be deactivated
