Hello!
I’m working on learning the software - however, I’ve come across a problem that makes one of my slurs look odd.
Does anyone know how to fix this, preferably so that it’s not a problem again?
I may be wrong, but I think it is caused by your note spacing, as the accidental overlaps the previous note and the slur has to make a diversion to avoid it.
Would you happen to know how to access and change the necessary settings?
I’m no expert on this. You could try changing the note spacing for this bar and see if Dorico moves the slur, or you could simply adjust the slur in Engrave.
Unfortunately I think this is a Dorico limitation. There’s nothing for it but a little manual adjustment. Dorico is centering the endpoint of the slur on the notehead and is having to deal with the notes and accidentals.
I could be wrong, but I don’t think so.
Yes, this looks like default placement to me. There are settings for allowing the slur to cross the stem of the ♭, but none for ♮, so the slur is going far out of its way to avoid a collision. I would raise the start point of that slur 1 space in Engrave mode.
@Mark_Johnson The latest update corrected this omission and now there are settings for both naturals and sharps as well as flats.
There have been a number of threads about adjusting the Engraving Options for Slurs (and Beams): Dorico’s defaults are pretty good (and arguably better defaults than ahrmph., but when they go wrong, they tend to be noticeably wrong.
You may want to fiddle with the “Maximum increase in height to avoid collisions.” This is set to 4 spaces by default, and it means “the slur will grow by as much as 4 spaces to avoid things”.
Setting it to a lower value means the whole slur will move, rather than grow.
