Why does Absolute 6 download to the Windows 10 system drive instead of the target folder?

Good day. Please tell me how to solve this problem… I bought Steinberg Absolute 6. But for some reason almost everything downloads to the system drive instead of the target folder. It’s good that I noticed it in time and stopped the download, because there was very little space left on the system drive (Windows 10).

Deleting via Steinberg Download Assistant does nothing - the system drive does not shrink. Because, as I saw, the downloaded folders in the target folder on the drive (D:) are either empty, or there was very little downloaded there. Therefore, when you delete, only these empty folders are deleted, and the downloaded files remain somewhere on the system drive (C:).

By the way, when I downloaded Cubase 13 a little earlier, I noticed that there was less free space on the system drive, although the target folder for downloading was specified on the drive (D:).

What to do in this situation? How to clean the system disk now? And what should be done so that everything is loaded not on it, but in the target folder that you specified?

Target folder is really badly named. The folder only serves for temporary downloads. It is not the installation location. For example, if you download Cubase, its installer file will be placed to the target folder. But Cubase itself will be installed in a system folder like all the other Windows apps.

The same is true for libraries (sounds, loops, whatever…). They will be downloaded to the “target” folder initially, but then moved to the system drive instead to a default location. You can move those libraries after installation using Steinberg Library Manager. But if you don’t have space to install them initially to the system drive, you can also set default library location there inside the library manager as well:

So, you have to set both “target” folder in Steinberg Download Assistant and the default library location in Steinberg Library Manager and those two must be different folders. The former is temporary and whatever remains there can be safely deleted after installation, while the latter is the actual permanent installation location.
