Why does Dorico presents newly created bars so narrow?

When I create a new bar, using the “+” above the previous bar, sometimes Dorico creates a new bar that is so narrow that you cannot put anything inside it. Why does this happen, and how can I avoid this? See bar 44 in the screenshot.

Thank you!

Luc

In the end, I’ve deleted this measure, and tried to change the time signature of the following measure, to make it longer. But al the following notes go shifting, also when I use the insert mode. No idea how such a simple thing can become so problematic. What do I do wrong?

Click on the last note of measure 43. Open properties panel (bottom panel). De-select ends/starts voice options. For the LH part you’ll probably need to go back to the last note in the LH. You could also try selecting the note in the LH in measure 45 de-selecting the option. How they got turned on in the first place…?

Thank you James! it worked… maybe this has something to do with the fact that the file was an xml exported from Finale?

I also notice you are not showing rests in the lower stave. If this is not intentional, I suggest you do a Select All, then reset the starts/ends voice toggles (as @JAMES_GILBERT suggested)

Thank you Janus! Indeed, this is intentional, I know very well that the common practice is to fill out everything with rests, but I prefer to do this only as it is required to avoid confusion… maybe Dorico has more problems with this habit than Finale, I don’t know…

There is a layout option for this…

Uncheck it!

After all, one can uncheck it temporarily to fill out the added measure and then re-check it later.

Thank you, Janus and Derrek!

The box was checked actually; but not in every empty bar rests appeared (as you can see on the screenshot above)… I guess this is a result of the xml coming from Finale, where originally the empty bars had no rests at all.
