My project is set to 3/4 time. When I get tempo detection to work on a MIDI clip it puts a 1/4 signature at the start of my clip. Why? It needs to stay as 3/4.
Because it cannot know what the signature is. So it just tries to detect the tempo and then let’s you decide the signature.
I get that you would expect it to keep your manually set 3/4 though, but consider this: If you have an anacrusis which is just a quarter long and you’d start with 3/4 then everything would be even more messed up.
Technically, this would probably be possible by taking velocity into account and assuming that notes with higher velocity are the beginning of a bar, but in the end it’s all just guess work.
So it is the normal process to set the signature to 1/4 regardless?
Yes. And then, once you’ve lined up the audio correctly, you can just leave the first 1/4 bar (for pickup measure purposes), grab all those other 1/4 signature events, delete them, and insert the proper one on the very start, just after the one initial 1/4. Then, everything should fall in place.
