Hi,

Sorry, I’m not aware that WhatsApp has its own audio format…

I read your post as a feature request; therefore, I would recommend adding the optional feature-request tag.

It’s not a widly supported format. You’ll need to covert it to wav or something.

WhatsApp primarily uses the Opus format (Ogg Opus) for voice messages, which offers efficient compression and high voice quality but is not widely supported by all media players. While WhatsApp also supports other formats like AAC, MP4 (for music files), and AMR for sending music and files, voice notes are saved as Opus files. To play or share these files on other devices, you typically need to convert them to a more universally compatible format like MP3 using a web converter, desktop software, or by changing the file extension directly.

not widly

on today world ppl send scatchs on whatsapp more then everyplace

and everytime need to convert sound like 80s

I’m not sure that that’s the case.

How old are you? Were you around back then?

You should simply make your request known, and tag it feature-request so it will be considered by the developers. There’s no real need to project your annoyance.

Why?

WaveLab 12, for example, supports Opus:

It doesn’t make sense that sound editing software can’t import any audio codec.

Hi,

Cubase is a Music Production Software, Wavelab is an Audio Mastering Software. Drum this point of view, WaveLab makes much more sense, and it can do it.

As it has been said already, it’s nonsense to ask any software to read every format.

Does any DAW support every format codec?

Wavelab is not really a DAW. I consider it a foundation for editing and mastering with incredible analysis tools.

Its like photoshop will not read jpg

Not sure if you know but whatsapp today is number one of transfer scatch and idea betwin artists

That is not my experience at all, and it seems doubtful to me that that’s true, but if you provide some way of actually knowing that it’s true please post it.

Otherwise you’re really just trolling the forum, and the reaction from members here will be along those lines.

As well as the ones you listed, Whatsapp also supports MP3, as does Cubase. So use that.

to say whatsapp and not widly on same line its a bit strange

I know English is not every forum user’s first language, but this is downright - well, you know.

I use Nuendo and I’m very satisfied with it, but seems a nonsense the need of a FREE software to convert audio codecs to be used with Nuedo (an expensive software).

On a sidenote: I do also occasionally share song ideas/sketches with other musicians by WA or other messenger. But especially WA voice message sound quality is the worst!

What I do is I record my ideas with the built-in recorder app on my phone and share the result via messenger. Sound quality is much better that way, and the shared recording is a normal stereo .m4a or .aac file that any of my co-workers can use in their own DAW without the need to convert it first.

That being said: WaveLab 12 can open .ogg and .opus files
