Why is Noteperformer repopulating with instruments that I deleted?

I deleted a bunch of instruments (player and parts), then I deleted them in the Noteperformer plugin (by using the “delete slot” from the Override).
When I press play on Dorico, the Noteperformer repopulates the plugin with the deleted instruments.

Why is this?
Can I get it to stop doing that?

@VV1 choose menu Play/Playback Template… select Note Performer Playback Template and click Apply and Close.

There is no need to do this. When you close the project Dorico and Noteperformer will do the required garbage collection.

But I want to use it properly without having to close and reopen the project file every time I change the instrument setup! When experimenting with orchestration I need to get back into Noteperformer to mute things or change volume.

That just makes another mess, because it resets all of the mixer values, so any panning, volume or mute states get lost.
