Why isn't my playback looping?

I was a Cubase user decades ago, and am revisiting it since I need ARA for my vocal workflow, but I’m tripping over what should be incredibly simple: looping playback.

AFAIK, clicking with the hand icon in the selected portion of the timeline has the same effect as clicking on the “activate cycle” button. Both turn the selected time range orange, but then it simply does not loop. Playback continues past the loop point as if looping was not enabled.

I’m assuming there must be a setting somewhere that is effectively disabling the ability to loop playback, but I’ve been searching for it for well over an hour now including reading through the manual, and I’m not seeing it. The half dozen tuts I’ve dug up all just say to do what I’ve already done.

What am I missing?

(M4 mac, cubase studio if that matters)

Hi and welcome to the forum,

Isn’t the Right Locator positioned before the Left Locator?

As Martin says you have your in marker after your out marker…if you were to play from before both of them with cycle on it would exclude that section on playback…in case you were wondering what the point of allowing this was.

Got it. Thx. I’m familiar with the excluded section concept from Logic. I guess I just assumed the color was different because the Tuts were outdated, so thought maybe this was a newer version. I guess I would have realized that if I had tried playing it from before the beginning of the section and seen it jump, but I was testing it only within. Working now.
