For example: 2 channels with the same files and setting, if you turn the deesser on on one channel it starts to phase and is not usable…
but in the channel delay view, it shows 0ms delay, but there is obviosly a delay…
If the de-esser works in split mode and doesn’t use a linear phase cross-over, it’s quite logical that two identical signals will phase when played simultaneously.
… but maybe I misunderstood your issue …?
hi! sorry - missunderstood - it is a compensation issue - no matter, deesser, compressor, or magneto..etc…
I just tested all Strip-processors. Phasing happens as expected when using the De-esser, a filter or - somewhat surprising - Magneto in one, but not in the other channel. All others are fine.
… it’s a real phase issue, not a question of latency.
But the fact is: if you use channel Strip plugins the Channeldelay says 0ms; but if you through the same compressor on the normal pluginchain it shows a delay which is compensated.. this small amount of delay causes phase issues, when you play the same signal on two chennels, one with channel strip plugin on and one with channelstrip plugin off, even when the compresser is doing nothing…
The channel strip is delay compensated.
Dear @walter_till,
nice talking to you on the phone! As promised, I ran an extensive test on NU14 on macOS 14.4.1 with the use case you described, but the results are the same as before: there are no latency issues, and the display in the mixer channel also reflects every change:
Maybe you can share a Project that exhibits the issue you seem to encounter.
Best,
/Dietz
That is interesting in my case only the limiters are compensated…
when i open the deesser plugin in the instert it is compensated, but i checkt with audio, that the desser in the strip causes a delay…
maybe it is a problem with my projects .. but it is in all of them?
I tested the de-esser as a insert and a strip (same settings) with a pulse, rendered the audio and the result is this:
top is the original, second is de-ess as an insert, third is as an insert, but in “Live” mode, last is the channel strip variant.
So the channel strip clearly operates the same as the insert with the Live-Button activated, i.e. without any delay. The phase shift is most likely caused by minimum phase filters in Live-mode.
Settings:
(tested in Cubase 14.0.20, but should ideally be the same in Nuendo)
Cool! thanks for testing .. something similar seems to happen with the other strip plugins, even when you bypass, except if you select none.. Thanks!
