Why was this feature removed in Nuendo 15? It was really convenient…
When dragging in multiple audio files in Nuendo 15 now, they either all appear on a single track or each on a separate track — there’s no option to choose.
Is this a “downgrade”? Or is there a setting so
mewhere that I just haven’t found?
Hi, this setting is now integrated into the import options dialog. If you don’t see the import dialog, check Preferences→Editing→Audio, section “On Import Audio Files”
Cheers Dirk
Yes, I saw it and used it, but it’s very inconvenient. If I “tick” it, then I can only use that method to display it every time, or I need to be prompted with options every time I drag in audio. This is very inconvenient. The previous version of Nuendo 14 didn’t prompt me when dragging in a single audio file, but only asked me if I wanted to display it on multiple tracks when dragging in multiple files. That was very convenient

For what it’s worth, this is all working fine in C15 (with ‘open options dialog’ set in the “On import audio files” preference…
Single file import = no prompt; multiple files, I get the (insert on) prompt with ‘different tracks or one track’ buttons.

I don’t agree, This is an added feature convenience upgrade and not a feature removed. You can now assign that behavior as fixed in the preferences if you have a lot of the same repetitive takes/moves etc, and if you want the option you just need to set it to open options dialogue and then choose if you want import files on One track or not (different tracks). It would still be the same amount of clicks in the end.
I guess there might be a situation in which you want the copy settings fixed and still want the option to decide if you want to import them on one track or multiple, which would be the old way. So in that regard its different. Its not much of an issue for me as I tend to always want options on import or fix it if I know I will have lot of imports coming in etc.
I can see that viewpoint. I think for those of us who prefer the instant ease of selecting one or multiple with a single click, it makes a difference in workflow over time.
yeah I see, might be tied into them wanting to lump in all import audio settings into one umbrella with the new track list feature going with it. Though if files are already imported and in the pool I believe the old way may still be there. Not 100% I would have to test that again.

Gotcha, yeah. I understand it’s a little thing, but IME it’s the little things with extra clicks that add up quickly.

I do not like this new behavior; now, settings like “convert to project settings and copy to project folder if needed” (which I always leave on) are lumped in with options I change often (“Import files on one track”), this creates way more clicking than necessary.

I agree with you, yeah. I’ve said this to death on the Cubase forum: The less clicks to perform a function the better, always.
Only spent a day with N15 but I can see myself being grateful for this being merged to one place. Because I want to have the choice of converting sample rates or to keep 96khz or higher, the import box is always shown. With this baked into the same window, there is actually less clicking to perform the same task in my workflow

That’s great! I can see the benefit in cases like that.
I think an option to have it the former way for those of us who benefit from that would be best. But I don’t see it likely happening, so I think I’ll just need to suck it up. It’s not a major thing, luckily, as opposed to the other things I’ve reported.
It’s just a matter of habit. In the previous version, you could set it so that there was no prompt, and you could drag multiple files into one track or have them displayed across multiple tracks—it was very convenient and flexible. But in the current version 15, when you drag in multiple files, you can only place them into one track or have them displayed across multiple tracks—you don’t have the freedom to choose. There’s only one way to do it.

In agreement that this is an upgrade. It also fixes the issue from N13/14 with the old popup where you couldn’t use the “tab” key anymore to choose between “one track” or “different tracks”. I would say this change in N15 is a clever fix. Less clicks, but more options if needed. Thanks!
I can see how this is a benefit now, I’ll just alter my workflow to fit as it seems to have more positives than negatives. Thanks for the descriptions of how it helps!
I more item about this issue. When video files are dragged into Nuendo 15 (with option “Open Option dialog“), it is asking for audio properties of each audio extracted file, and then question about placing into One or Several tracks is skipped, and files are placed into 1 video track to the same start position (several overlaped video files in 1 track), and several audio tracks.
