Why would it take WL 12.0.40 5 minutes to open??? I just upgraded from WL 12.0.30, Thanks in advance!
What do you see during these 5 minutes?
A blank desktop screen. Nothing is coming up. I am running Windows 10 (with all the updates). Then it finally opens. Weird, only starting happening since upgrading. I still have WL 11 and WL 10 and they open fine.
Did you try to reboot?
First thing I didā¦no change.

This sounds like a license check issue, since nothing is shown. But I have not more cues.
This happened to me as well (Win 10 22H2) the first time I started WL 12.0.40 after the upgrade. I had to end the task, after which I rebooted, started WL again (it hung at the splash screen) and just left the PC for a while (I canāt say how long, maybe 1-2 hours), after which WL had started with the hub open, and the problem no longer occurred.
If it is a licencing issue why does WL 11 not have the problem? Something is very wrongā¦I will try it again today and report backā¦
The answer to that is probably because each version is a separate installation.
I ā¦ and I know others who arenāt on this forum but are seriously experience WL users ā¦ experienced something eerily similar to this shortly after the introduction of the new licensing system.
To me it felt like the system was making a dongle call back to base. While we were assured this was not the case there really was no other plausible explanation for it, and none was put forward. I know what a dongle call feels like.
To make matters worse, it generated a deep crash in my whole main system that took the best part of a day to recover.
Meanwhile, my laptop ā¦ essentially a āduplicateā of the main machine ā¦ never experienced any of this.
Post crash recovery, the license seemed to know it was there.
Have you tried disconnecting the computer from the internet before launching WL. See what happens.
Now I fully expect that there will be numerous posts confirming that Steinberg licensing does not make dongle calls etc. And certainly, itās not supposed to. But anyone who has been around computers long enough knows that whatās supposed to happen doesnāt always apply.
Good luck with this. I feel for you.
Yesterday everything was āback to normalā and WL opened the way it normally does. I think Paul_Rat_Blakey is on to something. Letās hope that what I experienced was a āone-timeā event and will not be repeated. I personally do not like the whole way the updater and authorization works with WL and think it could be improved with some work. FWIW
Hi!
Just guessing here maybe Windows virus protection builtin
or Steinberg Server for some reason isnāt responding with the licenseā¦

Why then did my Laptop with an identical Windows build at the time not experience the same issue.
Whatever the reason ā¦ in 2024 we should not be having a conversation about how license system checks inhibit legitimate software responding seamlessly. It just should not happen.
