Windows 11 Cubase stays beghind other apps (even when Cubase clicked)

Example - I’ll have Cubase 14/15 open and in use with the video window open, then I’ll open e.g. Windows explorer or notepad (not maximised, so appearing on top of Cubase), when I click on Cubase again without closing the app it leaves the open app on top even though it passes the focus to Cubase. If I alt+tab once to get back to Cubase the problem is the same. I have to alt+tab a few times to get Cubase to the front again. This happens on both my main rig and my laptop. If the video window is closed the problem doesn’t happen.

This started happening on Cubase 14 and I’d hoped Cubase 15 would solve it, but apparently not.

This seems fundamental, so I can’t believe I’m the only one but perhaps I’m missing something. Has anyone experienced this and how did you solve it?

Main rig- Two screens - a DELL 4k and a Phillips TV. AMD RX6600 graphics card. Up to date. Laptop - Lenovo P53

Can confirm that both C14 and C15 have this issue on W11. It’s frustrating as all hell.

Not happening here on Cubase 14 or 15. A single click brings Cubase to the front.
This is on Windows 11 latest.

I’m assuming it’s not happening with most people. Did you have the Cubase Video window open when you tried?

Yes, but I just tried it again repeatedly. First click will get Cubase back every time, but bring the non-Cubase window back to the foreground and subsequent clicks don’t always work. I sometimes have to click on the video window first to get Cubase back to the front.
So, confirmed that it’s inconsistent.

Thanks for revisiting and confirming the inconsistency. It’s been frustrating me for a while but was hoping for a maintenance or upgrade fix to help, alas not (yet).

That inconsistent window foreground behaviour is also present on my Cubase 14 on Win10 setup with a 2 monitor configuration.

Unfortunately I haven’t figured out the underlying pattern yet.

After trying it this morning I wasn’t able to find any pattern to it, except the first click after opening the non-Cubase window will always work, but after that it just seems to be random.
Clicking on the video window followed by clicking on a Cubase window will always work.

This was happening on Win 10 Cubase Pro 14 + Nuendo 14 and seems to be even worse in Windows 11 CP15/Nu14 (along with the fact I can no longer minimize all Cubase windows at once - since CP13). So insanely frustrating that I have to click Soundminer, Slack, an Explorer window and then each Cubase window (Project, Pool, Mixer 1, 2, 3, and Channel Settings) to bring it all back to the front! Insanely frustrating when doing quick fixes on sound design assets for games (Wwise) which means I bounce between multiple apps for a couple of hours….Cubendo always stops my flow with the lack of window focus. It’s been like this for years.

Same pain here. Cubase + all the other apps for sound design for games etc (Unity, Teams, Web browser, RX…). Constant switching and Cubase is the only app that has this problem.

I too struggle with this Cubase behavior. Hoping for a solution by v16

Good to see I’m not going mad - come on Steinberg!

Hi there.

I can confirm this issue at least since I upgraded to Cubase 15. Whenever I add a plugin to my insert channels, it does not open directly on top as it was before the upgrade.
