PC - Win11 - 16Gb RAM - i9-12th gen
Wavelab Elements 12 has become so unstable I think I need to totally remove it and re-install.
What’s the best / safest / most complete way to do that, please?
Standard Windows Install.
@JuergenP This is supposed to be a forum where we help each other, not snipe or be snide.
I have flagged your reply as inappropriate.
@wavelabpro Nope, that only removes the “top layer” of install and the re-installation comes with all the faults, bugginess and instability.
Does anyone else have any useful ideas?
@wavelabpro yes I did. The issues remain. The main four issues are:
1 - Saving or “saving as” files takes up to a full minute (and this is a fast machine - 12th gen i7 16Gb RAM).
2 - Wavelab does not see my external sound card any more. It used to, now it doesn’t. Again, I’ve tried a reinstall of the sound card drivers, uninstall and reinstall and updating the drivers.
3 - Wavelab does not see the Waves VST3 (or any Waves) plugins at all. When I try to insert one, I get a message like “insertion at this point does not match the channel configuration” or something like that.
4 - When the plugins used to work, Render would ONLY render selected audio range and In Place. No other options worked.
Also I really dislike the tabs display and much MUCH preferred it when the waveforms were in floating windows so you could see more than one and visually compare.
So … all-in-all, I am very, very unhappy with it but I paid the money so I’m going to make it work. However, I can’t work out how to properly uninstall, including left-behind data, files, preferences and settings.
Any genuine help with all this would be gratefully received.
Thank you
Johnny
The new version works for me, and it should work for you as well. I am on Windows 11. May be a complete uninstall with geek uninstaller should help.
What audio interface do you have?
I have to agree with you the floating windows were better, and the new version has to consider switching between tabs and floating windows like SF.
1 - Saving or “saving as” files takes up to a full minute (and this is a fast machine - 12th gen i7 16Gb RAM).
The reasons for this are often linked to security software or simple folder permissions. The delay is typically the system trying to resolve permissions and so on. Other causes can be the impending failure of an SSD (I have had this exact thing happen just as the SSD reached its read/write limit and became unreadable).
2 - Wavelab does not see my external sound card any more. It used to, now it doesn’t. Again, I’ve tried a reinstall of the sound card drivers, uninstall and reinstall and updating the drivers.
Does WL see the device if it switched on after WL is launched? Does any other ASIO app see the device? What is the external device?
3 - Wavelab does not see the Waves VST3 (or any Waves) plugins at all. When I try to insert one, I get a message like “insertion at this point does not match the channel configuration” or something like that.
I should begin by saying that I have not been a Waves fan for some years. That said, the channel configuration message is typically due to a mismatch between the plugin instance and the wav file/montage. Check that your montage is in fact stereo particularly if you openned it from template. Last time I used a Waves plugin, it offered different instances for like surround and so on. Generally, this is issue is likely to be something quite simple once the mismatched is identified.
4 - When the plugins used to work, Render would ONLY render selected audio range and In Place. No other options worked.
This is indeed unusual behavior. Perhaps a preference has become corrupted. You could try deleting the Preferences folder AFTER you have first made and saved a safety back up. See below easy path to the relevant folder set.
Regarding workspace preferences, as PG has shown you can choose to display more than one wav file. Personally, I much preferred the move to a tab based system which only shows we all work in different ways and have different preferences.
Good luck
Where is this option?
This is absolutely abnormal if you have your file on a local system and on a SSD. This sounds like an anti-virus issue.
Do you have an ASIO driver?
Most probably something you have not understood in the workflow. Check the manual about Rendering.
Are you using WaveLab 12.0.40?
Could it be that you have the 32 bit Waves installation? The 64 bit version is needed.
Try to so a plugin rescan.
This being said, your file save issue points towards a file system or anti virus issue, and I would not be surprised if this is also the cause.
You can select the windows layout by creating a file group and define the window direction from the menu
This works only when file group is created. The old layout was better where files were shown as a pack of cards.

Hmm we have to agree to disagree on this one. Much prefer the current layout to the pack of cards.
I can relate. However, WL should have retained the default to what it was and also allowed customization for users.
My guess is that would be incompatible with the tab based workspace
Maximizing window switched to tabs.
