Many thanks for your words of wisdom. Yes, the compatibility mode was a bit of a red herring, have now reset it and got my desk channels back. I can’t be certain but the coincidence of drivers going down when the Windows 11 update can be understood but my Cubase files started going to the strangest of places thereafter including the Downloads folder thus the “Could not create record file”. Your direction to the relevant thread did the trick. Many thanks.
