Have you tried reinstalling the drivers for the StudioLive device?

23H2 is a complete Windows installation, so that means some drivers need to be reinstalled.

The ASIO driver of the Studio Live S32 should work independent from the device in Windows but who knows.
Reinstall drivers. If that does not work contact Presonus.

@Psychlist1972 has explained what happens when a complete Windows upgrade is installed in another thread (in that case from 23H2 to 24H2), so I guess the StudioLive driver also just needs a reinstall.

That is probably correct but as to my knowledge there is no correlation between the Windows device manager and the ASIO system. So any information from the device manager cannot necessarily be transferred to the ASIO side of things.
Still a re-install of both, the Windows driver and the ASIO driver is most likely to fix the issue.

True, but in this case the StudioLive driver is probably the culprit, as it is a kernel mode driver and that needs a reinstall. From the initial posting I see no problem on the ASIO side, except that the ASIO driver obviously can not reach the StudioLive driver.

The connection is shown in the screen shot. Device Manager only shows things Windows knows about. In this case, the kernel driver that backs the ASIO interface likely failed to load (not present, some error) so the device is not recognized. Windows knows there’s something there, but doesn’t know how to talk to it.

ASIO drivers aren’t really “drivers”. They are in-process DLLs that talk to something else. That something else is usually a kernel driver and sometimes also a Windows service. They all get installed together from the manufacturer as part of their driver install package.

Most, but not all, drivers get reinstalled properly after an OS upgrade.

Just reinstall the driver. The win 11 update killed my rme asio driver. Reinstall sorted it.

Hi

PreSonus help desk have suggested the following:
update the firmware - done (2.8.2.103375)
update the USB driver - done and the yellow triangle has now gone
put the StudioLive 32S desk into compatibility mode - done but with the loss of Aux 1 & 2 as separate stereo returns and the loss of Tape completely

Sadly I still get the same error message from Cubase " could not create record file"

Best wishes

Dara

I agree with Presonus’s first two points but I’m puzzled by the suggestion to put the board into compatibility mode. Did they explain why you should run that way?

Also, I’m not convinced that the ‘Could not create record file’ message has anything to do with your driver issue. I think it may be a bit of a canard.
If you do a google search on the message, there aren’t that many hits but none of them are associated with audio drivers or connections. They variously seem to be related to Cubase’s ability to create files on disk, whether through issues of permissions, space, file formats, etc.
Here’s a few threads:

Dear KT66

Many thanks for your words of wisdom. Yes, the compatibility mode was a bit of a red herring, have now reset it and got my desk channels back. I can’t be certain but the coincidence of drivers going down when the Windows 11 update can be understood but my Cubase files started going to the strangest of places thereafter including the Downloads folder thus the “Could not create record file”. Your direction to the relevant thread did the trick. Many thanks.
