WL 12.0.40 file save behaviour when saving to new directory

I’m pretty sure this is not correct behaviour when saving to a new directory, and different from previous versions of WL up to and including 12.0.30:

  1. From montage click File → Save As
  2. Right-click in rightmost file browser panel and select “Create Folder”
  3. Give folder a name and press OK
  4. The view is not refreshed automatically, so click “refresh” icon to display new folder
  5. Double-click on new folder – FILE IS AUTOMATICALLY SAVED IN NEW FOLDER WITHOUT FURTHER DIALOG
  6. Screen returns to Montage view

At step 5, I would expect the system to open the new folder, display contents, and importantly keep the dialog open, allowing me to edit and change the file name.

For example, when using the (fantastic!) new null track I would like to:

  1. Starting with Montage saved as “Project-1”
  2. Create a new folder in the existing project directory called “_NULL”
  3. Save as with the new name “Project-1 NULL” into that folder

However, with this behaviour it automatically keeps the same filename as the currently open Montage (e.g. “Project-1”) when saving into the newly created directory.

Hope that makes sense! OS details here:

Edition Windows 11 Pro
Version 23H2
Installed on ‎10/‎11/‎2022
OS build 22631.4391
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22700.1047.0

Thanks!

Thanks for the report, I can reproduce, this is a bug indeed. The same problem happens even if you don’t create a folder beforehand.

Work around: open the folder from the left panel where there is the tree view

or, in File > Preferences > Display
check the option “Open Quick File Selector When Saving Files”

Thanks @PG1 - I will try the workaround, it looks like a good option in any case
