WL12 Crashing w/ Plug-Ins on Output Section

Hello Friends, I have been having an issue where WaveLab 12 crashes when I have certain plug-ins on the Output section of the inspector. The issue is intermittent. It seems to be crashing when I have FabFilter Pro-L or DMG Limitless on the Output section of the inspector, which is what I usually have there. So, two different developers.

I haven’t tried every plug-in on my computer, but it seems to happen with some plugins and not others. It doesn’t happen with FabFilter Pro-Q 4, DDMF Magic Death Eye, oeksound Soothe2 to name a few. It does happen with DMG Essence.

My workaround has been to put the limiter on the Track with my sequence. This is fine for when I am exporting my final sequence, but it’s frustrating to have to move the limiter around, activate and deactivate it, etc. Not sure if this is an issue with WL, these developers, or my computer. Any insight is appreciated.

I have a crash log saved if that helps. Thanks in advance!

A crash dump would be needed to know more.

Got it, should I paste here or Direct Message you?

try to paste here

Crash report is too long to paste here or DM. I made a PDF of it but that is too big to upload here, and it won’t let me drop in the textedit file. Let me know the best way to get it to you.

ZIP it and post it as a private message. But don’t send a PDF, because that breaks the crash info formatting.

On a Windows 10 system, current WL build, I frequently use DMG Limitless on output and can report that it works fine.

FWIW, I haven’t had an issue over the last few years using both Pro-L2 and DMG Limitless in the Montage Output, but they are usually in the middle of sandwich surrounded by Sonnox Inflator and TDR Limiter 6GE.

I also load them as a plug-in chain preset vs. manually from the plug-in menu.

Generally speaking, I am on the latest macOS version and have been on various M-series Apple Processors for a few years now, not running in Rosetta mode so only using the VST3 versions of these plugins.

Maybe the crash report will speak more but I consider these to be safe and stable plugins.

I don’t have a real explanation for this crash. I note, however, that in the instance of WaveLab, there are plugins that consume tons of CPU and resources (I don’t know their names). This is certainly not stranger to the crash. But I don’t think this can be FabFilter Pro-L, that is a good and fast plugin.

And Dave Gamble and the crew at DMG certainly know what they are doing

Thanks for looking! Yeah, I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the heavy-duty plug-ins I’m using are contributing in some way. That said, if I move DMG Limitless or Pro-L from the Output to the Track, the problem goes away. If you have any other thoughts or insight, let me know! In the meantime I can work around it.

Maybe also check if you have the latest version of Limitless …

It may be the straw that breaks the camel’s back, but it’s not necessarily the cause of the problem. But if it’s a solution, it’s already that.

Got it. Thanks y’all!
