WL13 - Opening WL12 AM in Safe Mode

Hi PG!

When I open an old WL12 montage in Safe Mode (File/Open/Audio Montage/Open (SafeMode)) I do not get the WL13 conversion pop-up and the opened file has no v13-suffix.

Is this intentional and does it mean that the file is not “converted”?

The montage is converted, but no copy is made. In the next update, I will make a change so that a copy is made, like for the standard opening.

OK so basically

  • the opened montage is converted but without suffix and not yet stored
  • the original montage on disk is untouched
  • you can decide to save the converted opened montage as you like
  • or you can decide to close the opened montage and nothing has been changed.

In a a way it sounds like an alternative “safe” way for opening old montages without triggering any changes regarding versions etc. Kind of useful… :thinking:

But maybe it would be a bit confusing leaving it like that!?!?

No, the montage is converted to WaveLab 13 and the version on disk is modified and cannot be reused in WaveLab 12, when you use the “Open Safe” special function. But thhis will change in WaveLab 13.0.10

Yes, I can see I now get an error message when trying to open the original montage in WL12.
