WL8.5 install problem

After manually finding the download page, I downloaded the WL8.5
I launch WaveLab_85_Installer_win.exe
which gets me to… Start_Center.exe
I click install.
after a bit I get this message

saying that the installer has stopped working.
Funny thing is, the program is on my C-drive. I can launch 8.5
I cannot access my preferences or presets for 8.0
Since the install failed I did not get the message to copy over my 8.0 prefs
so I followed PG’s message

On Windows, copy this folder:
“C:\Users[YourName]\AppData\Roaming\Steinberg\WaveLab 8”
to
“C:\Users[YourName]\AppData\Roaming\Steinberg\WaveLab 8.5”

This did not work. When launching 8.5 We get the factory default. If I tell it to file/new.from preset it says I do not have a preset.

Did I get a bad download?
Do I assume this is due to a failed install?
if so how do I get it to install completely?
is this a ‘rights’ issue ?

Yes. 8.0.3 works fine!

So the only problem is about 8.5 not finding the 8.0 settings?

The best we can tell, Yes.

I don’t know what to make of the install stopped working message, but all I want is
for my preset workspace and other presets to work in 8.5

Then copy the setting folder, as explained in another thread of today.

I did, it didn’t work

I copied over everything from 8.0 to 8.5
should it be just certain files ???

no default montage
no customized key commands
no windows layout
no CD wizard preset
no render preset

Is you WaveLab 8 setting “Independent for each user”, as on the picture?
If no, use “Open active setting folder” to find where your settings really are.
Copy that to
C:\Users[UserName]\AppData\Roaming\Steinberg\WaveLab 8.5
Erase Stratup.ini inside this folder, is any.

they were not in …
“C:\Users[YourName]\AppData\Roaming\Steinberg\WaveLab 8”

they were in …
Computer\local-C\programdata\steinberg\wavelab-8

but Yeah now everything is there

I had the same installer crash but WL 8.5 seems to work anyway.
I copied preferences and presets as per PG’s instructions and it worked.
Also when I deleted startup.ini WL said that it had detected a WL 8 installation and if I wanted to copy presets etc.
So it might be good enough to just delete startup.ini.
