Worksheet help

I can’t say I’m expert in Dorico after 2 weeks practice, but I’m spending most of my free time on Dorico these days, and now got to a point where I just stuck with the worksheet layout I need to create above. I’ve watched loads of gorgeous videos, read loads of tutorial stuff online, but couldn’t figure out how to create this template on a clever way using all smart features of Dorico.

So, in my great despair I came to the thought to ask, whether some of you would create a video tutorial for me, what leads me step by step through the whole process considering that, you are dealing with an idiot:) I’m happy even to pay for it if necessary.

I have this weird feeling with Dorico, the gem is so close, but no idea where exactly:(

Just today I watched a video how to do that with flows.
Unfortunately (not for me) it’s in German

However there’s another similar one in English

Anyway the Steinberg specialists recommend to do that with multiple flows and dynamic frames.

Thanks, I’ve already watched John’s video and was really helpful but wasn’t enough for me to solve the case. Maybe I’m too stupid. Or just unpatient as I worked with Finale for a very long time and it is like a mother tongue for me, don’t need to think what to do, how to do, I just know what I need to know. And now all of the sudden I’m like a new born baby, everything is new and even if I have a gut feeling about how smart it is, I’m rambling in darkness. What is quite frustrating:)

I’m in the same situation, a half-my-life Finale user having started learning Dorico a week ago.

In my opinion one of the most remarkable benefits of Dorico (there are many) is that it works like a publishing program e.g. Adobe Indesign. So you can use linked frames in conjunction with flows. Flows are like multiple consecutive independent movements which Finale doesn’t know at all.

Poor we!:)))

Yes, I see how smart it is, and strangely sometimes annoys me inputting notes, slurs and any other items when I do it with Finale these days. My main issue is actually this flow-thing. I don’t mean it in general. I mean the small details:)))

This is a quick & dirty example with two flows

Here is a sketch

Using

Codas

Remove/add staff

Casting off

some entered/modified barlines

hiding time signatures

For the chord functions, I used two lines of lyrics and the figured bass tool (some fine tuning should be done in engrave mode), but someone may have an easier way.

one just needs to set the first example (in C or whatever).
use the system track to select all. press R to repeat the whole example, Alt+shift+T for the transposition dialog. Transpose as desire.

As a final step, hide the warning key signatures where necessary.

Thank you so so so so much!

Is every individual line a new flow?

No, everything is just one flow. Please see the dorico file i have uploaded.

Thank you so much one more time! I’ll have an intense go tonight! But it looks very smart!

Can I ask again please!

In the worksheet I have both single staves and group of 2 staves (piano score). How shall I start setup? I created a keybord scheme (player), and couldn’t delete the empty left hand bars. Is it cos a single staff of a piano system cannot be deleted?

I can’t hide empty staffs after usic ‘coda’ command to divide the systems.

The signpost is there (-1staff) but the staff remains too:((((
What do I wrong?

I see Treble and Bass staves separately labeled and joined by a bracket. Looks like 2 instruments. You want one instrument joined by a brace, such as Piano. Check the Setup.

Indeed, trying to remove a staff from a 1-staff instrument doesn’t do anything.

What @Mark_Johnson says, just use a Piano player or any “grand staff” instrument.

To understand this, I suggest you don’t think about this worksheet. Rather just create a new Piano Score and experiment with adding and removing staves and see what happens. All the commands are under the right-click>staff menu (add staff above, add staff below and remove staff).

With this you can produce some very creative scores!
staff

This is what happened. I selected the two empty bars, right click> staff >remove staff. And it erased the whole line also the second part, what I haven’t marked and what wasn’t empty.

What do I wrong?

Sorry for bothering you so long, I think I ignore some crutial point of the whole process:(

I got it!!! At least I got a clue, maybe not the most sophisticated, but it works!

When I start to delete, it deletes from that point till the end of the flow.

But at the bar I want to carry on, I just ‘add a staff’, and the lost music is appearing again!

Is this the best way? Or is there any even smarter?

Anyway, many thanks for your patience:)
