Hello,
I’m sure this has been discussed but it would be nice to be able to control what part of the loop in the world percussion patches gets played and what doesn’t. Is this possible and I’m not seeing it? There are some decent sounds in there but usually it’s one instrument sound that is so bad and not natural that it ruins the rest of the loop. Overall you could of just given us 100 samples of bad world percussion programming and that would equal what we get in the world percussion module.
To make it better: Let the user control each sound. It would be great to control the rhythm as well… maybe put the sounds on a grid like in b-box giving the user a mix to mute or lower volumes of specific sounds. You guys are on the right track - it just needs to be more user controlled and less fixed loops…
Thanks,
dmichael
having a similar issue and there was nothing about it in the halion manual, so i came to the forum looking for advice. there are some decent samples in there, but the interface is barebones. to the point it basically unusable for anything more than triggering the loops.
does anyone know where the samples are stored? i’d like to just pull the samples out and use groove agent or even the new drum machine to trigger them.
Hi arkhive,
I’m confused by your comment because I have access to every kit piece in ‘World Percussion’ and simply trigger the midi notes from my keyboard.
You can see from my screenshot that there are always two types of presets - just the loops and just the individual kit pieces. The loops are always indicated with the original BPM number!
thanks for the reply, jamescolah. you’re right, of course. i’d meant to say that it’s only good for triggering the samples, not loops. i can trigger the samples just fine, but the only parameter i can control is the velocity, and it would be great to be able to load the samples into a more fully-featured sampler to be able to control envelope, pitch, etc.
do you know where the samples are stored? is there a way to access them without individually recording them into an audio track one by one?
Hi again arkhive,
Unfortunately the samples are locked so there’s no access to them but I’m still confused because you can’t get a more fully featured sampler than Halion 7!
Under the Program tab you have access to every individual sample which can be edited in hundreds of ways - changing the pitch/envelope, adding effects for just that one sample, changing the velocity/volume, truncating the individual sample, etc etc, the possibilities are endless!
Make sure to click on the Midi icon which is directly below the Steinberg icon and then when you play a note on your keyboard you will see exactly which samples are assigned to that note!
Also, the loops can be truncated and mangled etc and if you think a loop is too busy you can simply mute out any kit piece in that loop you don’t like!
I can appreciate that it would be nice to use those samples in groove agent, etc but it’s not the end of the world!
Hope this helps?
Have a nice day!
Kind regards

ahhh, okay! good to know. i just need to explore the halion backend a bit more, i guess. the ‘world percussion’ macro page doesn’t have a lot of parameters, so i had a bit of a scout in the other tabs, but obviously not deep enough. thanks for the pointers. now i have a direction to explore. i’ll go have a poke around in the midi section now.
wow! that ‘program tree’ tab has opened up a bit of a wormhole for me. between that and the ‘midi mapping’, i think i’ll be able to do everything i was hoping for. thanks again for the tips.
