What is recommended for a new CPU and motherboard for win 10 and cubase 12?
What’s your budget, and what else will you be doing with it?
Two summers ago I built a new PC with AMD-based hardware. It’s worked for gaming, Cubase, and video editing, three higher-horsepower workloads. I built it with an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X and a Radeon RX 6700XT GPU. I was running 32GB of RAM (also VERY important) and have recently upgraded it to 64GB because the prices have gone down. The machine is quiet and powerful.
That said, I built a desktop of course. Choosing a laptop has other considerations, and I also have a gaming-class laptop on which I do some Cubase work. Still, you’ll run Cubase fine on anything 18+ months or older, provided you aren’t buying the lower-end chipsets.
Hi, thanks for the info! I am using Cubase 12- honestly, I probably only record about 10 tracks a song (about 1/4 midi). I am on a tight budget so your amd recommendation sounds good! Thanks again, Toni
Happy to help. Good luck!
I’ve published a post last year discussing my criteria and resulting component list for my self-built Cubase/DAW computer.
Most of the thinking still holds.
In addition, recently it’s been all over the tech press, that Intel seems to have major quality issues with some of their recent CPUs, that often end up in DAW builds.
Also: Intel and AMD are about to release new generation CPU’s, which may bring prices down for prior generations.
My specs:
AMD Ryzen 9 5950X 16 core 3.40 GHz
128 GB RAM
Nvidia Geforce RTX 3060 Ti graphics card
Focusrite 3rd Gen 2i2 audio interface
Windows 10 Pro up to date
Cubase Pro 12 up to date
Dorico 5 up to date
This is a desktop, no gaming just music and music business. Good luck.
What country are you in?
Literally just the CPU and motherboard? Or the whole thing?
In the UK, go to Scan. Various budgets. Well built, stress tested before delivery. Free mug!
Avoid Intel, at the moment. I think in the race for the fastest chip they’re letting standards slip.
